Name of <strong>Programmes</strong><br />
The Grenada Board of <strong>Tourism</strong> has implemented two (2) programmes aimed at rais<strong>in</strong>g the profile<br />
and status of tourism on the island and they are as follows:<br />
1. School Visits Programme<br />
2. <strong>Tourism</strong> <strong>Awareness</strong> Week<br />
Brief Description of the <strong>Programmes</strong>/Goals<br />
‣ School Visits Programme<br />
The School Visits Programme targets students and teachers of Primary and Secondary Schools,<br />
enlighten<strong>in</strong>g them about the importance of the <strong>Tourism</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry to Grenada and the importance of<br />
the natural environment for the advancement of this <strong>in</strong>dustry. Activities <strong>in</strong> the form of weekly visits<br />
to two schools at the primary and secondary level are conducted dur<strong>in</strong>g the months of September<br />
to December. In addition, schools are also visited dur<strong>in</strong>g the months of May to June and<br />
presentations regard<strong>in</strong>g “Careers <strong>in</strong> <strong>Tourism</strong>” are conducted.<br />
‣ <strong>Tourism</strong> <strong>Awareness</strong> Week<br />
The <strong>Tourism</strong> <strong>Awareness</strong> Week <strong>in</strong>volves a variety of activities, which are conducted to:<br />
(1) Rem<strong>in</strong>d the general public about the benefits of <strong>Tourism</strong> and the public’s role <strong>in</strong><br />
improv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Tourism</strong>.<br />
(2) Rally stakeholders and service providers to improve services.<br />
(3) Inform selected secondary school students about tourism careers.<br />
Target Groups<br />
The general public, tourism service providers, tourism stakeholders, government officials,<br />
students and teachers are the ma<strong>in</strong> target groups.<br />
Programme Activities<br />
The ma<strong>in</strong> activities conducted are as follows:<br />
• Church service<br />
• Television Panel Discussions<br />
• Radio Call-<strong>in</strong> <strong>Programmes</strong> & Radio Talks<br />
• <strong>Tourism</strong> Exhibition & Fair<br />
• Secondary School Forum & School visits<br />
• Awards Ceremony<br />
• Hotel visits by students<br />
• Deployment of banners<br />
