I s s u e N o . 3 P a g e 4 Interschool Chess Copperfield College participated in its first interschool chess competition for 2012. Students from Kings Park and Delahey journeyed to St Mary‟s Coolaroo to play against schools such as Penleigh and Eessenden Grammar, Australian International Academy and Northcote High. The team consisted of Stephanie Dimopoulos, Steven Nguyen, Rauda Rozali, Hilman Pramudiarta and Fabian Brito. For many of the team it was their first experience of tournament chess and the team performed very well. Highlights included Rauda winning best female player and Hilman winning four games out of seven earning a credit certificate. Special mention must be made of Fabian who whilst playing opponents four years older than himself was still able to win two games. The students had an enjoyable day and got to meet many fellow chess players from other schools. The next tournament is in Term 2 on the 18th June. If you like chess why not come along? See your local library staff for details. Delahey Campus Psychologist Judy Scarfe is our Delahey Campus Psychologist. She heads our College Wellbeing Team. Judy is available to students who wish to consult her about a wide range of personal concerns. These concerns frequently involve relationship issues, deaths and illnesses of loved ones, school motivation problems, learning and concentration difficulties, mood and behaviour regulation, and sleep disturbance. Other issues less frequently raised include internet, cigarette smoking, and drug and alcohol control, homelessness, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, anger management, gender identity, bullying. Consultations with Judy are confidential unless there is a risk of self-harm or harm to others, or the student is the subject of abuse, in which case appropriate disclosures will be made to ensure safety. Referrals can be made to other agencies, should that appear to be warranted. Appointments are made with Judy directly or through the General Office. Students are obliged to catch up with any class work missed because of appointments with Judy. I s s u e N o . 3 P a g e 5 S.R.C News from Delahey Put a smile on your mums face May is here and so we are getting ready to treat our mothers on mother‟s day this year! Have you ever been stuck for ideas of what to get your mum for mother‟s day? Well how about a beautiful bouquet of flowers bought fresh from the market and prepared especially for your mum? Sounds great, we know! The SRC in conjunction with Ms.Marics VCAL class this year have decided to run a bouquet stall for students to purchase a beautiful bunch of fresh, vibrant flowers for a low cost of $8 a bunch. The sale will be held on 9th and 10th of May so students should be ready to purchase the flowers which will support a great cause. All proceedings will be donated to Sunshine Hospital‟s Maternity Ward who help care for women and babies from all over the western suburbs. We hope that all students will purchase a bunch of flowers and help support our local hospital. Vision Australia Vision Australia is a not for profit organisation who are in partnership with people who are blind or have low vision. Their own vision is to help blind or low vision people achieve their goals and ensure the community is aware of their capabilities and contributions. I would like to congratulate SRC members who gave up their time for cooking cookies to raise funds for Vision Australia. They have raised $229. Well done and thank you to Ms.Maric for her assistance. Masketta Fall A day of enjoyment, thrill and excitement. SRC have been able to minimise the stress of school life by organising interactive activities. To entertain our students at Delahey Masketta Fall will be performing at Delahey on 18th of May. They are a 5 piece pop/rock band from the west of Melbourne. Representatives from Vision Australia and a special Labrador in training visited and spoke to students about their wonderful assistance to vision impaired people in need of a dog to guide them through daily tasks.
