FINANCIAL Assistance<br />
SENIOR ASSISTANCE PROGRAM through the City<br />
of <strong>Louisville</strong>. <strong>Louisville</strong> <strong>Senior</strong> Services, in partnership<br />
with the <strong>Senior</strong>s of <strong>Louisville</strong> Advisory Board and Boulder<br />
County Aging Services, offers a program which provides<br />
financial assistance with:<br />
• Xcel Energy bills<br />
• Activity Scholarships<br />
• Emergencies as deemed appropriate by<br />
<strong>Senior</strong> Services staff.<br />
Eligibility criteria is:<br />
• <strong>Louisville</strong> resident (residing in home) for over<br />
one year<br />
• Minimum age of 60 at the time of application<br />
• Annual household income of less than $25,000 -<br />
individual and $30,000 – joint<br />

Boulder County Housing & Human<br />
ServiceS offers a variety of programs, including Food<br />
Assistance, Medicare Savings, Old Age Pension and Long<br />
Term Nursing Care. All programs are based on income<br />
eligibility and may include a review of assets. For<br />

assets below $2,000 (couple $1,348<br />
assets below $3,000). Age 65+, blind, or disabled.<br />
Food Assistance (Food Stamps): Age 60+ or<br />
disable, gross income under $1,174<br />
(couple $1,579). Asset limit temporarily waived.<br />
Veteran’s Services: 303-441-3890. Assistance<br />
with benefits, insurance, homecare, Widow’s benefits,<br />
medical claims, and other concerns.<br />

Open Enrollment Counseling<br />
Is your Medicare Drug or Health plan the best one for your<br />
needs? During the Oct. 15-Dec. 7 enrollment period, you<br />
may change plans or enroll in one for the first time. Call<br />
303-666-7400 to schedule your individual appointment<br />
with a Medicare counselor to review your current plan.<br />
Appointments are available Mondays, October 29,<br />
November 12, and November 19, from 9 am – 2 pm.<br />
Medicare Basics Classes are offered monthly for<br />
anyone wanting to learn about benefits, costs, and choices<br />
under Medicare. Classes are conducted by Medicare<br />
Counselors, and are brought to you free of charge by<br />
Boulder County Aging Services Division. Boulder class<br />
dates are Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Nov. 1, and Dec. 6 from 2-4 pm<br />
at 3482 N. Broadway, Sundquist Building. Registration<br />
requested by calling 303-441-1546. Longmont class<br />
dates are Sept. 17, Oct 16, Nov. 20, and Dec. 17 from<br />
10am-noon at the Longmont <strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Center</strong>, 910 Longs<br />
Peak Ave. Call 303-651-8411 to register. <strong>Louisville</strong> dates<br />
are Sept. 13 and Dec. 13 from 10am-12pm. Call 303-666-<br />

NUTRITION<br />
BROOKS CAFÉ (see page 56). Lunch is served at 12<br />
noon at the <strong>Louisville</strong> <strong>Recreation</strong>/<strong>Senior</strong> <strong>Center</strong>. Free<br />
Bread Wednesday mornings at 11 am, donated by Panera<br />
Bread in Superior. This program is a partnership to provide<br />
a portion of basic nutritional need for those in greatest<br />
need. Limit one grocery bag per household. Bring your<br />
own bag.<br />
CARRY-OUT CARAVAN. A grocery & delivery service<br />
for homebound seniors. Call Care Connect at 303-443-<br />
