Social Paediatrics in Saskatoon in Association with St. Mary's

o Education:
Mental health and/or behavioural problems and diagnoses can have a negative
impact on school attendance/performance; we can advocate to and work with the
schools on behalf of children and youth around these issues.
o Ministry of Social Services:
Advocacy around income, housing and for children residing in foster care.
o Justice and Law enforcement:
Advocate for youth involved with the juvenile Justice System in order to address
their undiagnosed mental health needs rather than criminalizing youth.
3) Accountability:
We are accountable to our patients, the community, our partners and our profession
by:
o Soliciting feedback from patients, families and our partners and colleagues as
necessary to improve services.
o Program evaluation
o Clinicians meetings
o Implementing the standard of care by keeping current with evidence-based
practices; participating in continuing medical education.
4) Standard of Care:
o Every infant, child and youth has the right to the STANDARD of health care
irrespective of income, race, gender, culture or ethnicity.
5) Accessible/decrease wait times:
o No referral from a family doctor required; patients, families and schools (with
parental consent) are able to refer patients.
o Flexibility regarding scheduling, in order to reduce the wait to the initial visit.
