3. Prevention and intervention services which help to identify students at risk.
4. Participating in case conferences/team meetings.
5. Acting as a resource to parents, schools, colleagues or community groups as required
(lectures, question and answer sessions, telephonic/in-person).
Definitions:
Social paediatrics:
• Providing care to infants, children and youth, recognizing that the child exists within
the context of the family, the community and society; and that it is not just biology
and genetics, but the social constructs like economics, politics, history, gender, race
culture and ethnicity that affect the health and well-being of children.
• The principles embodied in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
(UNCRC) are incorporated in the practice of Social Paediatrics; providing a legal
framework for working towards improving policy, accountability and social justice.
Comprehensive School Based health:
• Bringing the ‘doctors’ office into the schools as a means to improve accessibility for
disadvantaged patients and families, working cooperatively with the schools to
become an integral part of the school environment, offering a range of services in a
multidisciplinary environment.
