c. Venous irritation and tissue damage<br />
1. May cause pain at the site of administration<br />
because of venous irritation.<br />
2. Infiltration of intraarterial administration of a<br />
barbiturate may cause severe pain, tissue<br />
damage, and necrosis due to its high alkalinity.<br />
If intraarterial administration occurs,<br />
heparinization and regional sympathetic blockade<br />
may be helpful in treatment.<br />

with the administration of methohexital.<br />
