with anxiety.<br />
Despite <strong>the</strong> escalating problems, Medicine du Monde (MDM), <strong>the</strong> NGO previously providing outpatient mental health services, was forced<br />
to withdraw from <strong>the</strong> camps in <strong>2010</strong> as a result <strong>of</strong> funding constraints. Mental health services have subsequently been taken over by<br />
UNRWA, building on <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> MDM. During <strong>the</strong>ir project implementation period <strong>of</strong> almost three years, MDM trained three medical<br />
<strong>of</strong>ficers and four nurses to manage mild and moderate cases <strong>of</strong> mental illness. The UNRWA health department has also contracted a<br />
psychiatrist to support <strong>the</strong> services and UNRWA continues to subsidize <strong>the</strong> purchase <strong>of</strong> mental health drugs for <strong>the</strong> refugees displaced from<br />
NBC.<br />
