SEPTEMBER 2002 STATISTICS<br />

In September 2002, RPKs of AAPA member carriers rose<br />

by 12.5%. The number of passengers carried was up<br />

11.3%. Overall capacity showed a YOY <strong>in</strong>crease of 4.9%.<br />

With RPK growth outpac<strong>in</strong>g capacity <strong>in</strong>crease, the PLF<br />

rose 5.0 percentage po<strong>in</strong>ts to 74.8%. The exceptional<br />

results were the result of comparisons with the low base <strong>in</strong><br />

September 2001 follow<strong>in</strong>g the events of September 11 <strong>in</strong> that<br />

year.<br />

Vietnam Airl<strong>in</strong>es’ (VN) RPKs <strong>in</strong>creased 25.1%, followed<br />

by Asiana Airl<strong>in</strong>es (23.1%) and Japan Airl<strong>in</strong>es (20.3%). Thai<br />

Airways (15.4%), Cathay Pacific (14.6%), All Nippon Airways<br />

(14.4%), Korean Air (12.6%) and Ch<strong>in</strong>a Airl<strong>in</strong>es (11.2%) all<br />

experienced double digit growth. Royal Brunei was the only<br />

carrier to experience negative growth <strong>in</strong> September.<br />

All but one carrier reported an <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> PLF, with All<br />

Nippon Airways (16.6 p.p.) experienc<strong>in</strong>g the biggest rise. All<br />

Nippon (79.1%) also reported the highest load factor. There<br />

were eight other carriers with PLFs over 70%. Ch<strong>in</strong>a Airl<strong>in</strong>es,<br />

Korean Air and Philipp<strong>in</strong>e Airl<strong>in</strong>es registered a load factor<br />

slightly below the 70% mark.<br />
