Beij<strong>in</strong>g-based <strong>in</strong>ternational carrier, Air<br />
Ch<strong>in</strong>a, was rated the country’s favourite<br />
airl<strong>in</strong>e by 48.7% of the 30,258 passengers<br />
who responded to the survey. They complimented<br />
the flag carrier’s good safety<br />
record and “attractive image”.<br />
AVIC II to list<br />
<strong>in</strong> Hong Kong<br />
AVIC II, a jo<strong>in</strong>t venture partner with<br />
Brazilian regional jet manufacturer, Embraer,<br />
<strong>in</strong> the development and manufacture<br />
of a 30-50 seater commuter jet, is to<br />
list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange<br />
<strong>in</strong> 2003, pend<strong>in</strong>g approval from the State<br />
Council.<br />
All capital raised will be <strong>in</strong>vested<br />
<strong>in</strong> the new commercial aircraft project,<br />
which is based <strong>in</strong> Harb<strong>in</strong>. The partners<br />
expect to produce 24 aircraft a year with<br />
the first aircraft to be delivered at the end<br />
of 2003.<br />
In 2002, AVIC 11 made a profit of 20<br />
million yuan (US$2.44 million), its third<br />
successive black <strong>in</strong>k result. It has forecast<br />
a profit of 50 million yuan <strong>in</strong> 2003.<br />
Lhasa plans for<br />
biz jet operator<br />
Ch<strong>in</strong>a’s Shandong Ra<strong>in</strong>bow Bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
Airl<strong>in</strong>es has announced plans to<br />
offer regular private bus<strong>in</strong>ess jet services<br />
to the capital of Tibet, Lhasa, after a successful<br />
maiden flight on a Bombardier<br />
Challenger 604.<br />
Ra<strong>in</strong>bow Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Airl<strong>in</strong>es chief executive,<br />
Bai Weishan, said the company<br />
had received several <strong>in</strong>quiries for flights<br />
to Lhasa aboard the Bombardier aircraft<br />
s<strong>in</strong>ce the trial flight.<br />
Tighter regulation<br />
for general aviation<br />
Ch<strong>in</strong>a has <strong>in</strong>troduced legislation to<br />
regularise the fast grow<strong>in</strong>g general aviation<br />
market with emphasis on air safety.<br />
General aviation makes up half of<br />
Ch<strong>in</strong>a’s commercial aviation fleet and<br />
the sector operated more than 40,000<br />
flights last year. Its rapid development<br />
prompted the move, which will see the<br />
general aviation sector able to make<br />
better use of air space resources. The<br />
moves, <strong>in</strong> turn, improve flight safety and<br />
guarantee future development of general<br />
aviation <strong>in</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a.<br />
The regulations will come <strong>in</strong>to effect<br />
on May 1.<br />
Sky marshalls<br />
<strong>in</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
Ch<strong>in</strong>a aviation regulators have confirmed<br />
that specially tra<strong>in</strong>ed air security<br />
staff will fly on Air Ch<strong>in</strong>a services <strong>in</strong><br />
2003 as a means “to tighten air security<br />
and fight terrorism”. The first teams of<br />
security police have been selected from<br />
airl<strong>in</strong>e security staff and are be<strong>in</strong>g given<br />
specialist tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g before they assume<br />
their duties.<br />
