Industrial Wind Turbines - Information Report
RECOMMENDATION:
For review, discussion and further direction.
REPORT
There are 2 Industrial Wind Turbines (IWT) projects proposed for the Municipality of
Lambton Shores that are working through the Provincial “Renewal Energy Application”
approvals process:
Cedar Point Wind Project, which is a project by Suncor in the
Municipalities of Lambton Shores, Plympton-Wyoming and Warwick.
The current plan has 62 wind turbines, (24 shown as being in Lambton
Shores) with an estimated nameplate capacity of up to 100 M.W., and is
scheduled for commercial operation in summer of 2014. This project was
awarded a Feed In Tariff (FIT) contract in July of 2011.
Suncor’s current plan is for the final provincially required public open house to be
held in January of 2013, and has recently provided the Municipality with the
DRAFT project documents for review, with comments required by mid January.
These are the same documents that are required to be provided for public review
a minimum of 60 days before the public meeting.
Jericho Wind Inc. is a project by Nextera in the Municipalities of Lambton
Shores, Warwick and North Middlesex, and is proposed to have
approximately 92 wind turbines, (approximately 80 in Lambton Shores)
with an estimated nameplate capacity of 150 M.W. This project has also
been awarded a Feed In Tariff (FIT) contract.
The DRAFT project documentation on the Nextera Project was submitted on November
8 th , and it is anticipated that the final provincially mandated public meeting will be
scheduled in February of 2013.
The plans to bring a number of Industrial Wind Turbines (IWT) into the area have
caused conflict within the Lambton Shores’ community, as some residents have signed
contracts with the Wind Energy companies and are in favor of the projects proceeding,
