Isa. 40, 1-3
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people,
saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to
Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare
is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned:
for she hath received of the Lord’s hand
double for all her sins.
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight
in the desert a highway for our God.
Thus saith the Lord: Be converted to me,
and ye shall be saved.
Thanks be to God.

2nd Responsory
He came unto his own, and his own received
him not. But as many as received him,
to them gave he power to become the sons of
God, even to them, that believe on his name:
which were born, not of blood, nor of the will
of the flesh, nor of the will of man,
but of God.
V. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God,
and joint-heirs with Christ. Which were born,
not of blood, not of the will of the flesh,
nor of the will of man, but of God.

Consolez, consolez mon peuple, dit votre
Dieu. Parlez au cœur de Jérusalem,
et annoncez-lui que ses malheurs sont finis,
que son iniquité est expiée,
qu’elle a reçu de la main du Seigneur
le double pour ses péchés.
Une voix crie dans le désert :
Frayez le chemin du Seigneur,
aplanissez une route pour notre Dieu !
Ainsi parle le Seigneur Dieu :
Tournez-vous vers moi, et vous serez sauvés.
Rendons grâce à Dieu.

Il arriva dans son domaine, mais les siens
ne l’accueillirent point ; mais à tous ceux
qui l’accueillirent, il leur donna le pouvoir
de devenir des enfants de Dieu, à ceux
qui croient en son nom, qui sont nés
non pas du sang ni de la volonté de la chair,
ni de la volonté de l’homme, mais de Dieu.
V. Or, s’ils sont les fils et les héritiers,
et donc les héritiers de Dieu, ils sont aussi
héritiers avec le Christ, qui sont nés
non pas du sang ni de la volonté de la chair,
ni de la volonté de l’homme, mais de Dieu.
