DRIVER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM ENTRIES<br />
The Driver Improvement Program (DIP) is a two step program. The first step is a restriction <strong>of</strong><br />
driving privileges; the second step is a suspension <strong>of</strong> driving privileges. Persons between 14 and<br />
18 years <strong>of</strong> age are placed in<strong>to</strong> the Provisional DIP. Persons 18 years <strong>of</strong> age or older are placed in<br />
the Adult DIP.<br />
LICENSE RESTRICTIONS (Step 1)<br />
There are restrictions under both the Provisional and Adult Driver Improvement (DI) Programs. A<br />
Driver Improvement Restriction segment reads as follows:<br />

(a) Identifies the entry as a RESTRICTION entry.<br />
(b) Effective date <strong>of</strong> the restriction.<br />
(c) Ending date <strong>of</strong> the restriction.<br />
(d) Type <strong>of</strong> driver improvement program. Displays one <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />
PROV DI REST Provisional DI Restriction: Driver is under 18 years old and received two convictions, two<br />
preventable accidents or a combination that <strong>to</strong>tals two. <strong>Driving</strong> privileges restricted for 90<br />
days <strong>to</strong> and from, or for, employment with no passengers except parent, stepparent or<br />
guardian.<br />
ADULT DI REST Adult DI Restriction: Driver is over 18 years old and received three convictions, three<br />
preventable accidents or a combination that <strong>to</strong>tals three, in an 18-month period. <strong>Driving</strong><br />
privileges restricted for 30 days <strong>to</strong> prohibit driving between midnight and 5 a.m. except <strong>to</strong><br />
and from, or for, employment.<br />
DRIVER IMPROVEMENT SUSPENSIONS (Step 2)<br />
There are suspensions under both the Provisional and Adult Driver Improvement Programs. A<br />
Driver Improvement Suspension segment reads as follows:<br />

DRIVER IMPROVEMENT COURSE ENTRIES<br />
The following entry is used only when DMV is notified that a driver has completed a driver<br />
improvement course as a requirement for a probationary permit.<br />
