animal, a deer because it is colored brown. It has

What is your name? Are you a boy or a girl? My
name is Sofia and I’m a girl. My dad is Iranian and
my mom’s dad is Palestinian and so I am interested
in this magazine project.
My name is Dara, and I am a girl. My dad is
Palestinian and so is mom.
How old are you and when is your birthday? How
do you celebrate your birthday? What gifts would
you like to receive? I am 10 years old and my
birthday is February 11. I usually have a small
party with some of my family friends and then a
bigger party with friends from school. One year,
when I turned 10, I celebrated in San Francisco
by going out to lunch and then having a sleep
over with friends. I really want a dog for my next
birthday. I used to have a dog, but she died last
year.
I’m 11 and my birthday is January 18. I usually
have big parties with my friends. I like to
receive nail polish.
Do you have any brothers or sisters? What are
their names and ages? I have an older sister and
her name is Sahar. She is 14 years old and goes
to high school. She is really nice and we get along
very well. I like reading with her and whenever
we go on vacation, she is especially nice to me.
I have a little brother. His name is Walid. He’s
5 years old.
Do you have any pets? If so what kind? What
is your favorite? I have a cat and his name is
Picasso. My favorite animals are cats, dogs and
horses! I ride horses at a horse barn in Oakland. I
have been riding horses since the summer and I
like a horse named Calico.
I have a blue fish. My favorite animals are
horses, and I go horseback riding in Turmus Aya.
My favorite horse is Tal.
What grade are you in? How many students are
in your class? I am in 5th grade. There are 17
kids in our class. There is another 5th grade at
my school and there are 17 kids in that class as
well. We do sports together.
I am in 5th grade and there are 29 kids in our
class.
What holidays do you celebrate, and why? My
favorite holiday is Christmas and my second
favorite holiday is my birthday! I like Christmas
because I get lots of presents and usually we go
skiing the week before. We put up a Christmas
tree each Christmas and decorate it with my
family.
We celebrate Eid Al Adha and Eid Al Fitre. It’s
a traditional celebration.
What is your favorite thing to do in the snow?
I get to play in the snow at a place called Bear
Valley in Northern California. We drive there
usually before Christmas time. I like throwing
snowballs at my sister! I also ski down hills.
Sometimes I make snow angels by lying in the
snow and flapping my arms up and down.
I like to build a snowman and play snow fights
with my neighbors. I also like to make snow
angels.
What kinds of food do you like? I like Mac “n”
cheese. I like it because it is cheesy. I like to
make my Mac “n” Cheese by cooking the macaroni
first and then adding cheese.
My favorite sweet is Um Ali, it’s originally a
Syrian sweet and it’s delicious.
What is your favorite color? Mine is sky blue.
A lot of my shirts are sky blue and I have just
always liked that color.
