Register Ledger<br />

8. (1) A user of a register shall keep a register ledger in which he shall record the<br />

servicing of the register.<br />

(2) A user of a register shall ensure that the following are recorded in the<br />

register ledger-<br />

(a) the name and address of the person servicing the register;<br />

(b) an entry for each time the register is serviced, describing the servicing and<br />

signed by the person performing the service;<br />

(4) A user of a register shall safely keep the register ledger and avail it for<br />

inspection whenever required by the Commissioner to do so.<br />

Penalty<br />

9. Any person who fails to comply with these Regulations shall be guilty of an<br />

offence and shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand shillings or<br />

to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both.<br />

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR A REGISTER<br />

A register shall-<br />

(a) have a module with a memory and in case of a network system, the memory<br />

shall be inbuilt into each register being part of that network system;<br />

(b) have two display screens and a monitor; one screen for use by a purchaser and<br />

the other screen for use by the cashier;<br />

(c) have a memory built into the register and which memory shall-<br />

(i) not be accessible to the user or to any other unauthorized<br />

person;<br />

(ii) be placed in a socket and permanently placed in a casing and covered<br />

with a hard, no-transparent substance;<br />

(d) enable-<br />

(i) the registration in memory of the reports referred to in<br />

regulation 6;<br />

(ii)<br />

the resetting (to the zero status) of the register memory<br />

at the end of each report referred to in regulation 6;<br />
