RESOLUTION
Upon the Retirement of Diana Barthelman
WHEREAS, Diana Barthelman began her employment in December 1991 as the
Program Director of the Basic Skill Program; and
WHEREAS, Diana has expanded Rock Valley College’s Adult Education programs in
new directions and into new locations throughout her tenure in the program; and
WHEREAS, under her leadership, the Adult Education program was a recipient of the
U. S. Department of Education Secretary’s Award for Excellence in Adult Education and
Literacy Programs; and
WHEREAS, Diana was chosen as a YWCA Leader’s Luncheon award winner; and
WHEREAS, she coordinates RVC Adult Education services with those of many other
organizations in the immediate area that not only assist students, but also serve to raise the
awareness of the importance of Adult Education to our community; and
WHEREAS, Diana has served continually as a member of the Area Planning Council
and served many terms as the president of that group; and
WHEREAS, she has served as a liaison to local, state and federal administrators to
provide Adult Education program administration and funding; and
WHEREAS, during Diana’s time of service to the college as the Director of Adult
Education, she has supervised a total of 437 instructors and 54 staff members, been supervised
by nine different college administrators, moved offices seven times and enhanced the lives of
47, 948 Adult Education students; and
THEREFORE, be it now resolved that Diana Barthelman take with her the gratitude and
best wishes of all her colleagues at Rock Valley College and the Board of Trustees; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the undersigned express their hope that her
happiest years are those which lie ahead;
