RISK MANAGEMENT<br />

OFFICE ACCOMMODATION<br />
The <strong>RTA</strong> <strong>2006</strong>–2009 Office Accommodation Strategy submitted to the <strong>NSW</strong> <strong>Government</strong> Asset Management Committee covers 25<br />
leased and owned premises, the current average space density ratio of office space for these sites is approximately 14.4m 2 per person,<br />
which complies with the <strong>NSW</strong> <strong>Government</strong> accommodation guidelines.<br />
PROPERTY MANAGEMENT<br />
The <strong>RTA</strong>’s portfolio consists of property acquired for road construction and operational assets which are used to deliver the<br />
organisation’s works and services.The portfolio is reviewed regularly. Property not required for road construction or operations and<br />
related purposes was either disposed of or leased in accordance with government policy.<br />
A significant focus continued on identifying, implementing and protecting the <strong>RTA</strong>’s commercial opportunities, particularly in the<br />
development of the advertising strategy to optimise returns on appropriate sites in the road reserve. Revenues from advertising for<br />
2005–06 were $3.2 million. Revenues from the leasing or sale of property were above budget (gross revenue for 2005–06 was<br />
$52.9 million).<br />
INTERNAL AUDIT<br />
The Control Management Services Branch provided a high-quality, cost-effective auditing service across the full range of the <strong>RTA</strong>’s<br />
activities.The branch also provided a range of other services whose major focus was to ensure that controls are in place to address the<br />
organisation’s major risks in the future.These services included risk management, corruption prevention and investigation. See the section<br />
on Governance and risk management on page 63 to 66 for full details.<br />
CASHBACK SCHEME<br />
The <strong>RTA</strong> administers the Cashback scheme that allows drivers of <strong>NSW</strong> privately registered motor vehicles using the M4 and M5<br />
motorways to be eligible for a quarterly refund of tolls paid on these roads. Some 198,000 Cashback customers lodged 580,000 claims<br />
in 2005–06. The total cost of the scheme, including administration, was $81.8 million. The scheme is funded from consolidated revenue.<br />
FUTURE CHALLENGES<br />
Enhanced revenue opportunities for the <strong>RTA</strong> to consolidate non-Budget funding.<br />
