Heritage Action Plan 2005–2010<br />
A scheduled review of the 1999–2004<br />
Heritage Strategic Plan demonstrated<br />
achievements to date.The Heritage Action<br />
Plan 2005–2010 provides strategies and<br />
actions for a heritage function to be<br />
integrated within <strong>RTA</strong> business.<br />
Oral History Program<br />
Under the guidance of the <strong>RTA</strong> Heritage<br />
Committee, the Oral History Program<br />
continues to document the <strong>RTA</strong>’s rich<br />
heritage of road and bridge engineering.<br />
The work this year included:<br />
Completion of ‘Building Bridges’,<br />
Part 2 of the Lawrence Hargrave<br />
Drive Oral History, which tracked<br />
the construction of Sea Cliff Bridge<br />
through to the official opening on<br />
11 December 2005.<br />
Completion of interviews for an<br />
oral history on the development<br />
of the Remembrance Driveway<br />
between Sydney and Canberra,<br />
and the Victoria Cross Rest Areas<br />
along the route.<br />
NOISE MANAGEMENT<br />
Noise Policy development<br />
The <strong>RTA</strong> and the DEC continued work on<br />
a new construction noise policy and review<br />
of the Environmental Criteria for Road<br />
Traffic Noise. This work will assist in the<br />
current review of the <strong>RTA</strong> Noise<br />
Management Manual.<br />
Northern Pacific Highway<br />
Noise Taskforce<br />
Noise mitigation strategies continued to be<br />
implemented following the August 2003<br />
report of the Northern Pacific Highway<br />
Noise Taskforce. Initiatives included:<br />

PROTECTING BIODIVERSITY<br />
The <strong>RTA</strong> has many mechanisms in place to<br />
protect biodiversity. These include the<br />
<strong>RTA</strong> Environmental Impact Assessment<br />
Policy, Guidelines and Procedures, stringent<br />
environmental specifications, regular<br />
environmental audits and inspections of<br />
construction sites and environmental<br />
awareness training for <strong>RTA</strong> staff and council<br />
workers. An outline of <strong>RTA</strong> projects to<br />
protect biodiversity in 2005–06 are<br />
included in Table 10.<br />
