Productivity is directly related to the health and safety and welfare of employees. SAB companies promote continual
improvement in health and safety performance, involve employees and their representatives, and audit compliance
with health and safety legislation and industry safety standards.
Our Training Institute retained its five-star National Occupational Safety Association (NOSA) status, with a
grading of 98.8 per cent, believed to be a record for an operation of this size. It achieved the five-star rating at its first
attempt last year with a score of 90.5 per cent. The grading

health and safety measures. A requirement of the NOSA rating is a
disabling injury frequency rate of less than one per cent,
which Appletiser
has met each month since August 1998. The company
was the recent recipient of the 1999 NOSA Most
APPLETISER’S 5-STAR NOSA RATING.
Improved Company award in the field of health, safety and
environment, and its health and safety officer was nominated as the most improved safety
practitioner of the year.
During the year, Prospecton became the first Beer South Africa brewery to achieve ISO 9002 certification.
This international conformance standard reviews the entire quality system, ensuring satisfactory products and
services. The review was conducted by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), which noted at the time, that
“Prospecton has joined an elite club. Beer South Africa wants to be the best and this award proves you understand
quality, that you are a quality company.”
