Dreher aims to use less environmentally harmful materials for washing and disinfecting equipment and
packaging containers. In 1998, it introduced a washing agent preparation, which changed the proportions of the
components for washing bottles, reducing the quantity of chemicals used and improving the quality of bottling
plant effluent.
Chemical use in the boiler house has decreased considerably since the commissioning of a reverse-osmosis
water-softener.
The renovated steam pipe system has reduced specific gas consumption and environmental stress. Although the
value of specific gas consumption is excellent, even by international standards, Dreher aims to reduce this further with
technical developments, included in short-term plans.
The water from the deep wells of the Forrásmajor water-extraction site (some 80 per cent of total water use) is
used primarily for brewing, and the water purchased from the municipal system is used in the energy-recovery plant.

The main efforts to economise water use have been rationalisation of the water supply system to reduce losses,
eliminating or cutting off unused pipe
sections, monthly evaluation and
analysis of water consumption figures,
and effecting corrective measures or
repairs to increase the recycling of water.
