FINDINGS: SITUATION OF CHILDREN IN
SEASONAL AGRICULTURAL MIGRATION
DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE
Distribution of Children by Province and Gender
A total of 354 children participated in the research conducted in four areas (Adana/Mersin,
Ordu, Şanlıurfa and Yozgat) (Table 1). Of these children, 50.6% were girls and 49.4% were
boys. The gender variable was controlled in the sample and importance was placed on an
equal representation between genders. For example, while the participation of girls (54.5%)
in Adana/Mersin and Yozgat is higher than boys (45.5%), the opposite is the case in the
research conducted in Şanlıurfa (girls, 42.7%; boys 57.3%). A problem was experienced in
Yozgat: as mentioned at the beginning of the report, the research in this province was not
completed. Although the research in Yozgat was halted, the questionnaires which were
completed were still included in the comparative study.
