Transfer coursework taken at schools like Harvard Extension while simultaneously enrolled at SMFA will<br />

not count toward any away allowance.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s enrolled in <strong>the</strong> Combined Degree Program with Tufts must be enrolled for no fewer than five<br />

years (10 semesters). See <strong>the</strong> Tufts Bulletin for additional information.<br />

Transfer Credit<br />

New and Transfer <strong>Student</strong> Credit Transfer<br />

Transfer credit evaluations for new students are done by <strong>the</strong> Registrar’s Office. Contact <strong>the</strong> Registrar’s<br />

Office for additional information.<br />

Studio Credit Transfers<br />

Studio credits earned prior to admissions will be transferred on a course-by-course basis and <strong>the</strong><br />

transfer process must be completed prior to <strong>the</strong> beginning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> semester <strong>of</strong> entry. A maximum <strong>of</strong> 42<br />

studio credits may be transferred, including credits from summer school work completed while<br />

matriculated and continuing education credits from SMFA completed prior to matriculation. See <strong>the</strong><br />

Residency Requirement below for additional information.<br />

Studio Credit Transfers for Matriculated <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

Matriculated students may not transfer studio coursework taken at o<strong>the</strong>r schools during <strong>the</strong> regular<br />

school year unless <strong>the</strong>y are part <strong>of</strong> an approved away program.<br />

Summer Studio Transfer Credits for Matriculated <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

Summer studio credit earned at o<strong>the</strong>r schools may be transferred but must be pre-approved by <strong>the</strong><br />

associate dean <strong>of</strong> Academic Affairs for Undergraduate Programs. A Study Transfer Approval Petition for<br />

Studio Credit form (available in Academic Affairs) must be completed prior to enrollment in summer<br />

courses. A maximum <strong>of</strong> eight credits per summer, and a maximum <strong>of</strong> 14 credits total, may be<br />

transferred as a matriculated student. A number <strong>of</strong> schools are pre-approved for summer studio credit<br />

transfer. Requests for summer credit transfer from schools that are not pre-approved must undergo an<br />

approval process.<br />

Academic Credit Transfers for Matriculated <strong>Student</strong>s<br />

The Academic Affairs Office processes transfer <strong>of</strong> academic coursework for currently enrolled degree<br />

students. A maximum <strong>of</strong> seven academic courses may be transferred into <strong>the</strong> BFA Program. The transfer<br />

process is done by individual appointment. <strong>Student</strong>s should be prepared to provide course descriptions<br />

and catalogues in addition to <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts. Contact Academic Affairs and/or <strong>the</strong> BFA Policy Book<br />

for additional information.
