Graduate Programs (x3870)<br />

The Graduate Programs Office oversees all administrative aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fifth Year, Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> in<br />

Teaching, Master <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fine</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>, and Post-Baccalaureate programs and is <strong>the</strong> liaison with Tufts and<br />

Nor<strong>the</strong>astern Universities for <strong>the</strong>se programs. This <strong>of</strong>fice oversees graduate teaching assistantships,<br />

graduate student international travel grants, publishes <strong>the</strong> graduate student handbook, and provides<br />

academic advising, and registration information for <strong>the</strong>se degree programs.<br />

Library (x3388)<br />

The <strong>Museum</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library is <strong>the</strong> circulating branch <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> William Morris Hunt<br />

Memorial Library (<strong>the</strong> main library <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fine</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>, Boston). It is located on <strong>the</strong> third floor <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> B Building, overlooking <strong>the</strong> Fenway.<br />

Library Mission Statement<br />

The mission <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library, which also serves as <strong>the</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fine</strong> <strong>Arts</strong><br />

contemporary art library, is primarily to support <strong>the</strong> curriculum, research, and creative exploration <strong>of</strong><br />

students, faculty, and staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Fine</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>, Boston, as well as <strong>the</strong> research<br />

needs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> curatorial staff <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Museum</strong>.<br />

Library Collection and access information<br />

The <strong>School</strong> library collection focuses on 20th & 21st century art with artists’ monographs, art history<br />

books, periodicals, exhibition catalogs, videos, DVDs, and original artists’ books. In addition to <strong>the</strong> print<br />

materials, students have access to electronic resources and databases such as JSTOR, ARTbibliographies<br />

Modern, Grove Dictionary <strong>of</strong> Art, and Art Index. The library is a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fenway Library<br />

Consortium, which allows students access to participating library’s collections. Our online catalog is<br />

searchable through <strong>the</strong> Fenway Libraries Online (FLO), which is shared with eight o<strong>the</strong>r local colleges, and<br />

is available at http://endeavor.flo.org. <strong>Student</strong>s also have access to <strong>the</strong> Massachusetts Virtual Catalog<br />

which <strong>of</strong>fers Inter Library Loan services through approximately 350 o<strong>the</strong>r libraries in <strong>the</strong> state. For<br />

information about <strong>the</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s Visual Resources Library please refer to <strong>the</strong> Visual Resources<br />

Library information in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Handbook</strong>.<br />

Library Circulation Policy<br />

Within <strong>the</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> community, <strong>the</strong> W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library circulates to students, staff, alumni,<br />

and faculty <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> school and to <strong>the</strong> staff and curators <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Museum</strong>. Additionally, members <strong>of</strong> Fenway<br />

Libraries Online (FLO) and Fenway Libraries Consortium (FLC) have borrowing privileges at <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

library. The reference collection, rare books, and artists’ books are non-circulating. <strong>Student</strong>s may borrow<br />

library materials by registering with a valid student ID at <strong>the</strong> circulation desk.<br />

Library <strong>Student</strong> Responsibilities<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are bound to adhere to current Federal and State copyright laws.<br />

Massachusetts law imposes criminal penalties on individuals who steal, mutilate, alter, destroy, or fail to<br />

return books or o<strong>the</strong>r library materials and property as outlined in <strong>the</strong> Massachusetts General Laws,<br />

chapter 266 §§99, 99A, and 100. <strong>Student</strong>s are monetarily responsible for all fines and fees that may<br />

accrue on <strong>the</strong>ir library account, including replacement costs for any items that are not returned to <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

owning library.<br />

Mac Lab (x3871)<br />

The Macintosh computer lab is located on <strong>the</strong> 2 nd floor <strong>of</strong> B-Building and has three rooms <strong>of</strong> computers,<br />

scanners, printers, and o<strong>the</strong>r equipment for classroom instruction and general use for students and<br />

faculty.
