It is <strong>the</strong> responsibility <strong>of</strong> every student to arrange for and pay for all diagnostic testing and medical<br />

evaluations unless <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong> requires an evaluation by <strong>Student</strong> Affairs or Academic Affairs, <strong>the</strong><br />

Counseling and Mental Health Service, or o<strong>the</strong>r related or affiliated entity. <strong>Student</strong>s who disagree with a<br />

determination made by <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong> regarding a disability may utilize <strong>the</strong> procedures set forth under <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Student</strong> Grievance Policy section <strong>of</strong> this handbook.<br />

Alcohol and Drug Use Policy<br />

This policy has been designed to guide students, faculty, and staff in coordinating events involving<br />

alcoholic beverages and to help promote and maintain a safe and productive environment for all.<br />

Alcohol is permitted only in connection with special events sponsored by <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s Exhibitions Office,<br />

Development Office, or <strong>the</strong> President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong>, or in connection with an event sponsored by a<br />

recognized <strong>School</strong> group that has been approved by <strong>the</strong> dean <strong>of</strong> students and complies with all o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

provisions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> policy. Contact <strong>Student</strong> Affairs for more information about <strong>the</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Event Alcohol<br />

Policy.<br />

Use or possession <strong>of</strong> alcohol on <strong>School</strong> premises is not permitted for any person under <strong>the</strong> age <strong>of</strong> 21.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s 21 years <strong>of</strong> age and over may be served alcohol upon presentation <strong>of</strong> a valid driver’s license or<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong>ficial identification; possession <strong>of</strong> alcohol on-campus by individuals is prohibited, regardless <strong>of</strong><br />

age.<br />

There will be a non-serving attendant to check IDs whenever alcohol is served at <strong>Museum</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

functions.<br />

Unauthorized alcohol will be confiscated and returned to <strong>the</strong> owners as <strong>the</strong>y leave <strong>School</strong> premises if<br />

<strong>the</strong>y have positive ID proving <strong>the</strong>y are <strong>of</strong> legal age to drink.<br />

Any person at a <strong>School</strong> function appearing to be inebriated shall not be served.<br />

The <strong>Museum</strong> <strong>School</strong> strictly adheres to federal and state laws that restrict <strong>the</strong> sale, service, and<br />

consumption <strong>of</strong> alcoholic beverages and that prohibit <strong>the</strong> sale, purchase, transfer, possession, or use <strong>of</strong><br />

illegal drugs; including on- and <strong>of</strong>f-campus activity. Failure <strong>of</strong> a student to adhere to this policy may<br />

result in disciplinary action as outlined in <strong>the</strong> Community Expectations section <strong>of</strong> this handbook.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s should not hesitate to talk to one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> CMHS counselors or a staff or faculty member <strong>the</strong>y<br />

feel comfortable with should <strong>the</strong>y have concerns about <strong>the</strong>ir own or a friend’s use <strong>of</strong> alcohol and drugs.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s are encouraged to voluntarily seek help before a crisis arises that may affect <strong>the</strong>ir good<br />

standing as a student.<br />

Fire Safety<br />

An art school is a unique learning environment in which a wide variety <strong>of</strong> potentially hazardous and<br />

flammable materials are used. The risk <strong>of</strong> fire is as great as in any industrial setting. It is <strong>the</strong>refore<br />

imperative that students, staff, and faculty adhere to <strong>the</strong> following fire safety rules for personal safety<br />

and for <strong>the</strong> safety <strong>of</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs:
