The Three Musketeers
what's Disney's problem with TriStar, anyway?
Disney's "The Three Musketeers"
(based on the Alexandre Dumas classic)
forced a TriStar version into turnaround, just
Angie I Says
An acrimonious rift eruiafed between
former Fox production chief Joe Roth and
actress/singer Madonna over this comingof-age
story about an Italian girl in Brooklyn,
which Madonna personally
developed at Fox with screenwriter Todd
Graff. When Roth left Fox to form his
Disney-bosed production company Cara
van Pictures, he took "Angie" with him
w(7/iouf Madonna, who publicly accused
Roth of dropping her because of reservo
tions about her acting ability
(hmmm.. .maybe he caught on advance
screening of "Body of Evidence."). "After
as the Disney "Huck Finn" did before it. Chris
O'Donnell ("Scent of a Woman") plays
D'Artagnan, with Kiefer Sutherland ("The
Vanishing") as Athos and Charlie Sheen ("Hot
Shots Part Deux") as Aramis. Script by David
Loughery; "The Three Musketeers" is a coproduction
of )oe Roth's Caravan Pictures and
Avnet/Kerner, the team that produced "Fried
Green Tomatoes," in which O'Donnell was
featured in a small but showy role. Preview
screenings are reportedly off the scale with
audience approval. (Buena Vista, Nov. 1 2)
directing 'Coup de Ville' and being in
volved in 'Revenge of the Nerds' [and]
'The Excorcist III' you certainly are qualified
to speak about. ..great filmmaking'
said Madonna in a sarcastic, widely cir
culoted fox. Madonna's "A League of
Their Own" co-star Geena Davis is joined
by a post-"Crying Game" Stephen Rea
under the stewardship of Martha Coo
lidge ("Romblin' Rose") taking over the
reigns. (Buena Vista; Dec, limited)
Look Who's Talking Now
Kirstie Alley and John Travolta reunite for
"Look Who's Talking Now," in which Alley's
character loses her job and Travolta's cabbie
becomes a successful airline pilot. Don't expect
Bruce Willis or Roseanne Barr to
lend
their vocal talents to this one; this time, it's not
the kids but the household pels who talk!
Co-written and directed by Tom Ropelewski,
with Diane Keaton and Danny DeVito as the
mutts with the mostest. (TriStar, Nov. 5)
