we are investigating which training
courses can be delivered in these
areas close to ships.
An example of this is the
continuing development of the
TUASSC Transition Plan. As the
process of ANZAC platform
acceptance becomes smoother
and the end of building ships in
Williamstown approaches, the
focus of TUASSC will change to
the provision of training to
operational ships. By moving
TUASSC to the west, one removal
will get personnel to their new
locality and attending Position
Prerequisite Training. This will
provide training without having to
endure unnecessary separation
and provide more stability for
families.
With the success of the Skills
Development Centres (SDC) in
FIMA Sydney and Perth, the
intention is to establish a SDC in
FIMA Cairns. This will enable
auxiliary streamed sailors in FIMA
and small boats to progress
competencies whilst ashore or
alongside. The centre will target
specific competencies that are
difficult to complete as part of
the normal daily routine on small
boats and enable completion of
competency logs in a manner
consistent with promotion and
job requirements.
Hopefully this brief snapshot of
what is happening with some of
the current issues at DTA LOG
(ENG) will reassure you that
things are on the move. The future
for DTA LOG (ENG) staff is
shaping up to be one of
continuing challenges and
change. If you feel up to the
challenge and want to help the
Navy train to do our jobs then
there is always a place for you
within the training world of DTA
LOG (ENG).

Poster’s Postings
As indicated in the last edition of the Navy Engineering Bulleton LEUT Chris Miller
(Christopher.Miller@cbr.defence.gov.au) relieved LEUT Peter Dowton as Staff Officer Engineering 2 on 5
September 2002.
LCDR Phil Scott (Phillip.Scott1@cbr.defence.gov.au) relieved LCDR Mike Simpson as Staff Officer Engineering 1
on 13 January 2003. Phil joined the RAN in January 1980 as an Apprentice ETS and reached the rank of
POETS before being selected for RMIT degree studies in 1987. As an officer Phil has completed shore postings
in MDIP and CDSC and has served at sea as an AWEEO in HMAS CANBERRA and DWEEO HMAS MELBOURNE.
He has just completed another posting to HMAS MELBOURNE as WEEO.
Mike Simpson has been posted to the Australian Command and Staff Course.
