Graduati<strong>on</strong>s. The <strong>fuzes</strong> az-e graduated in sec<strong>on</strong>ds <strong>and</strong> halfsec<strong>on</strong>ds<br />

by means of the oval holes <strong>on</strong> the spiral, as shown in the<br />

plate. Intermediate tenths of a sec<strong>on</strong>d are indicated by four<br />

vertical lines between the large <strong>and</strong>. small holes.<br />

The setting of the fuze is indicated by a square hole punched<br />

in the spiral, the positi<strong>on</strong> of the left edge of this square hole<br />

giving the fuze-setting in tenths of a sec<strong>on</strong>d.<br />

In Fig. 1 the large holes are numbered from 1-24, <strong>and</strong> in<br />

Fig. 2, from 1-49, these numbers being equivalent to sec<strong>on</strong>ds.<br />

Material.— Brass.<br />

see "Remarks" <strong>on</strong> page 196.<br />

• A similar fuze, viz., "Fusee a double effet de 30/88, Modele 1884," is<br />

employed with 80 mm., 90 ram., 95 ram. <strong>and</strong> 120 mm. guns.<br />

t Similar <strong>fuzes</strong>, viz., "Fusee a double effet de siege de '30/65, Modele 1882<br />

M.93" <strong>and</strong> "Fusee a double effet de siege de 40/65, Modele 1880 M.93," are<br />

used with 120 mm. <strong>and</strong> 155 mm. guns, <strong>and</strong> mortars of 220 mm. <strong>and</strong> larger<br />

calibres. . :
