the C-Ville and Ben-Hur drive-ins at Crawfordsville<br />

from Jack Cook and Bert Rayburn<br />

the lobby Thursday. "Love Me Tender" opens<br />

there November 22 . . . Roy Kalver, Decatur,<br />

president of the Allied Theatre Owners of<br />

Indiana, will give the keynote speech at the<br />

National Allied Convention in Dallas November<br />

27. Hugh McClachlan, Trueman Rembusch<br />

and William A. Carroll also will attend<br />

from Indiana. Rembusch has retired from<br />

the Indiana State Fair Board after serving<br />

four years.<br />

Indianapolis Cooperative Theatres, headed<br />

by Pete Fortune, has moved its office from<br />

the Chamber of Commerce building to the<br />

Cinema Theatre, which Fortune recently took<br />

over from Ernie Miller . . . John St. Armand,<br />

who operates the Flora at Flora, took over<br />

the Roxy at Delphia November U from the<br />

Alliance circuit . . . Bob Conn, formerly Indianapolis<br />

manager for 20th-Fox and now<br />

working out of Chicago, was here Thursday<br />

for a World Showmanship drive meeting.<br />

Many Indiana exhibitors are promoting<br />

Christmas shows under merchant sponsorship<br />

. . . of Greater Indianapolis, has "sold" the Lyric<br />

to Western Electric plant employes for three<br />

"Oklahoma!" theatre parties this month.<br />

He also has reserved the house for Indiana<br />

Farm Bureau and P. R. Mallory Co. nights<br />

and is promoting the idea among other businesses<br />

and industries.<br />

More Safety Clubs<br />

HARTFORD—Children's safety clubs, recently<br />

launched at Stanley Warner theatres<br />

in New London, Willimantic and Danbury,<br />

Conn<br />

, have spread to two more SW situations,<br />

the State in Manchester, and the Palace in<br />

Norwich. The theatres issue membership<br />

cards to youngsters attending special Saturday<br />

matinee programs.<br />

Equips New Drive-In<br />

DETROIT—Ernie Forbes Theatre Supply<br />

has installed complete RCA projection and<br />

sound equipment for the new 1,000-car Northland<br />

Drlve-In at Flint Just opened by William<br />

Oleksyn. This is the only theatre In Michigan<br />

wired for in-car heaters, but It will not remain<br />

open this winter because of the short<br />

season between opening and cold weather.<br />

Exhibitors Join Salesmen<br />

In Colosseum Activities<br />

ST. LOUIS—Many local exhibitors took<br />

part in the social activities of the annual<br />

meeting of the Colosseum of Motion Picture<br />

Salesmen of America here last Friday and<br />

Saturday (9, 10).<br />

Visitors attended the Saturday luncheon<br />

in the Marquis room of the Kingsway Hotel,<br />

when L. J. "Bill" Williams of Union, Mo.,<br />

president of Missouri-Illinois Theatre Owners<br />

and a former film salesman, was asked to<br />

take a bow. Williams was unable to attend<br />

the cocktail party and convention dinner that<br />

evening because he had to drive to Hermann,<br />

Mo., to manage the Hermo Theatre, one of<br />

the units of his circuit, that night.<br />

The cocktail party, hosted by the Coca-Cola<br />

Co., and the convention dinner were the social<br />

highlights of the meeting.<br />

Tom Edwards of Eldon, Mo., a former<br />

president of both MITO and the Kansas-<br />

Missouri Theatre Ass'n, and another former<br />

film salesman, was master of ceremonies at<br />

the dinner.<br />

George H. Ware, assistant secretary and<br />

treasurer of St. Louis Loge 19 and a retired<br />

20th-Fox salesman, opened the dinner session<br />

with a brief welcome on behalf of President<br />

George A. Cohn and other members of<br />

Loge 19. He then presented Edwards as "the<br />

Sage of the Ozarks" and "the No. 1 Hillbilly<br />

Theatre Owner and Zoo Keeper of Missouri."<br />

Refuse Rezoning Request<br />

SAN ANTONIO—A rezoning request to<br />

permit construction of a 400-car drive-in<br />

theatre near Our Lady of the Lake College<br />

has been denied by the city planning and<br />

zoning commission. The request was from<br />

Beatrice Johnson and George Santikos. The<br />

property is between Castroville road, S. W.<br />

24th, S.W. 23rd and El Paso streets. The<br />

commission asserted the outdoor theatre<br />

would lead to the congestion of traffic on<br />

bordering streets.<br />

Tactical Error by Masher<br />

CHICAGO—A would-be molester made a<br />

costly error in the Roosevelt Theatre here<br />

when he directed his advances toward a<br />

policewoman, who arrested him on the spot.<br />

Policewomen and detectives had been assigned<br />

to the theatre following several complaints<br />

from women patrons.<br />
