to Tom Lucy . . . Mrs. Marguerite Stith,<br />

agent for a number of accounts in the<br />

Georgia, Florida and Tennessee territories,<br />

returned from a business trip to Jacksonville<br />

. . . H. P. "Dusty" Rhodes visited his Victory<br />

Drive-In at Columbus, and his Montgomery<br />

and Jet drive-ins at Montgomery.<br />

Theatre Owners & Operators of Georgia<br />

voted to present annual awards for the best<br />

stories published in Georgia newspapers about<br />

motion pictures. President J. H. Thompson of<br />

Hawkinsville appointed the following committee<br />

to complete plans for the awards:<br />

C. L. Patrick of Columbus, chairman; O. C.<br />

Lam of Rome. John Stembler, Paul Wilson,<br />

Gordon Bradley and HEirvey Walters, all of<br />

Atlanta. Some 50 theatre owners, operators<br />

and motion picture distributors from over<br />

the state planned the award at a luncheon<br />

meeting Wednesday (7) at the Variety Club.<br />

Mrs. Marlene Mendel, secretary at Buena<br />

Vista, has resigned, effective December 1,<br />

Alpha Fowler of the local Empire Theatre<br />

and the Alpha and Lithia Springs Drive-In<br />

at Douglasville was hospitalized following a<br />

black widow spider bite . . . Vacationing at<br />

United Artists were Mrs. Bea Finch, cashier,<br />

and Martha Chandler, booker. Mrs. Joan<br />

Grain, biller, was recuperating at her home<br />

following a stay in the hospital.<br />

C. A. Crute, Lyric Amusement Co., Huntsville,<br />

Ala., made one of his infrequent visits<br />

to the Row. Rufus Davis, Martin-Davis Theatres,<br />

Dothan, Ala., was also a visitor. Also<br />

in town were Wendell McCoy, Town, Jackson;<br />

J. F. Mincey, Tos Theatres, Claxton; John<br />

Thompson, Skyview Drive-In, Gainesville;<br />

Roy and E. D. Martin and C. L. Patrick from<br />

the Martin home office; W. E. Blue, Jackson<br />

Drive-In, Jackson.<br />

The November board meeting of WOMPI<br />

was held Tuesday night (13), at the Variety<br />

Club. President Jackie Cowart presided. A<br />

report was given to the board by Lois Cone,<br />

service committee chairman, on the visit of<br />

the service committee and the WOMPI president<br />

to the Salvation Army girls home. This<br />

home is being considered as a possible permanent<br />

project of WOMPI. A bingo party<br />

was given the inmates of Battle Hill Haven<br />

Monday (5). There was a large attendance.<br />

Plans have been completed for the annual<br />

meeting of salesmen and branch managers<br />

by District Manager James V. Frew at the<br />

Netherlands-Plaza Hotel, Cincinnati, December<br />

13, 14.<br />

Tarpon Springs Theatre<br />

Assists Youth Program<br />

TARPON SPRINGS—The Tarpon Theatre<br />

is planning to have a rock and roll time for<br />

teenagers from 1 to 2 o'clock every Saturday<br />

afternoon. Local merchants are sponsoring<br />

the program and a foUowup dance beginning<br />

at 8 p.m. The dance will be chaperoned and<br />

music provided. Both entertainments are free<br />

to every boy and girl between the ages of 13<br />

to 19.<br />

The afternoon program will consist of top<br />

tunes of the day played by a disc jockey from<br />

one of the radio stations in the area.. He also<br />

will act as master of ceremonies. Other unusual<br />

features of the afternoon program will<br />

be demonstration of new dance steps by<br />

authorized dance instructors, home talent,<br />

and unusual acts.<br />

Paul Lycan, theatre manager, is offering<br />

this program in conjunction with the "entertainment<br />

for youth" drive being sponsored<br />

by local merchants. In addition he is<br />

planning a cartoon carnival for younger<br />

children in the morning, and this, too, is to<br />

be sponsored by local industry.<br />

LARGO—Ralph Langston of Tampa has<br />

been named manager of the Largo Theatte.<br />

Prior to coming here, Langston was manager<br />

of the three Floyd drive-ins in Tampa and<br />

St. Petersburg. He went to the Floyd theatres<br />

from Sarasota, where he had been connected<br />

Lexington, Ky., arranged a sharp display<br />

for the lobby on "War and Peace" from<br />

the cover and art work featured recently in<br />

Life magazine on the film.<br />
