The best way to find the correct CG location is
to fly, and fly, and fly some more. Get the glide
to be at the maximum L/D.
While you’re flying, you should also be
learning to identify and “read” lift. A
lightweight antenna streamer, tree
movements, the flight of birds and insects,
and the appearance of dust can all be used as
indicators of thermal activity. Once you’re in a
thermal, you have to stay in it, so knowing
how to take advantage of the column of rising
air is imperative. Practice never ends.
