General Information<br />

First Aid and Security<br />

If an emergency should occur while at<br />

the Moscone Convention Center, proceed<br />

directly to the nearest house phone, located<br />

throughout the facility and in most meeting<br />

rooms, and dial 511 for security. You will be<br />

connected directly to the 24-hour manned<br />

security department at the Convention<br />

Center. From your cell phone, dial<br />

415.974.4021, which will connect directly to<br />

security.<br />

A First Aid room will be located near Room<br />

106 and is accessible from the corridor, inside<br />

the hall and from the loading dock.<br />

The First Aid Administrator will be on duty:<br />

Sunday.................... 7:00 AM–8:00 PM<br />

Monday.................. 7:00 AM–6:00 PM<br />

Tuesday................... 7:00 AM–6:00 PM<br />

Wednesday ............ 7:00 AM–6:00 PM<br />

Thursday................ 7:00 AM–5:00 PM<br />

Please note that in accordance with regulations,<br />

the First Aid Administrator is not<br />

permitted to dispense any medication.<br />

Global Gallery <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Toxicology</strong><br />

Societies <strong>of</strong> toxicology from around the<br />

world are invited to participate in the “Global<br />

Gallery <strong>of</strong> <strong>Toxicology</strong>.” Now in its second<br />

year, posters showcasing the formation, key<br />

accomplishments, strategic initiatives, and<br />

current and future activities <strong>of</strong> these sister<br />

societies will be prominently displayed<br />

during the meeting. SOT and these societies<br />

aim to increase the reliance <strong>of</strong> international<br />

decision makers on the science <strong>of</strong> toxicology<br />

to advance human health and disease prevention.<br />

Green in San Francisco<br />

Named one <strong>of</strong> the top 10 “green cities” in the<br />

United States by The Green Guide, and the<br />

second greenest United States city according<br />

to Popular Science, San Francisco was cited<br />

as a city that puts transit first and dedicates<br />

more than 17 percent <strong>of</strong> its 47 square miles to<br />

parks and open space.<br />

The Moscone Convention Center has been<br />

setting the recycling standard for convention<br />

centers for more than a decade, diverting<br />

nearly two million pounds <strong>of</strong> materials from<br />

landfills each year. The Moscone Convention<br />

Center <strong>of</strong>fers high performance windows<br />

and lighting; mechanical systems that exceed<br />

Title 24 Energy Efficiency standards; a fulltime<br />

air quality technician on staff, and one<br />

<strong>of</strong> the nation’s largest municipally-owned<br />

solar generation installations. The solar<br />

component consists <strong>of</strong> a solar electrical<br />

system capable <strong>of</strong> producing enough power<br />

for 550 homes annually. Over the project’s<br />

lifetime, it will reduce emissions <strong>of</strong> carbon<br />

dioxide by 34,000 tons, or the equivalent <strong>of</strong><br />

removing 7,000 cars from Bay Area roads for<br />

one year.<br />

Over half <strong>of</strong> San Francisco’s taxi fleet is<br />

composed <strong>of</strong> hybrid or compressed natural<br />

gas vehicles. Many San Francisco hotels<br />

have implemented eco-friendly practices<br />

such as the towel and linen reuse program;<br />

100 percent nonsmoking policy; recycling<br />

program for guests; use <strong>of</strong> compact fluorescent<br />

lights instead <strong>of</strong> incandescent bulbs;<br />

and the use <strong>of</strong> nontoxic cleaning products by<br />

housekeeping staff. In addition, many <strong>of</strong> the<br />

hotels compost food waste and have installed<br />

devices that power down heating and cooling<br />

when guestrooms are not occupied.<br />

AT&T Park is the first major league baseball<br />

stadium to use solar panels. The Diamond<br />

Vision scoreboard will use 78 percent less<br />

energy than the ballpark’s original scoreboard.<br />

Nine farmers’ markets operate in the city<br />

including the renowned Ferry Plaza Farmers<br />

Market, operated by The Center for Urban<br />

Education about Sustainable Agriculture<br />

(CUESA).<br />

Guest/Spouse<br />

Hospitality Room<br />

The SOT Guest/Spouse Hospitality Room<br />

provides guest participants (nonscientists)<br />

with a place to meet and socialize with other<br />

guests. To visit the Hospitality Room, guests<br />

must register for the <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Meeting</strong> with<br />

the person they are accompanying. Guests<br />

will not have access to the scientific sessions<br />

or the Exhibit Hall. Please remember to wear<br />

your badge to all SOT events. The Guest/<br />

Spouse Hospitality Room will be located in<br />

the Marriott Marquis.<br />
