CEO Annual Report
2014
2014 saw the beginning of a new look for the calendar for SCNA. We began using the calendar year for
the terms of the officers and directors as of January 1, 2014. So as of this report, it is for only one calendar year
instead of lapping from one year to the next. This was done in order to synchronize our elected official years
and our budget years. The major goal for this year has been to continue the work begun to streamline the Board
of Directors and the work of SCNA. As with all new concepts for governance, this one has come with pluses
and some drawbacks, but it is still new and working through the process is always great for any organization.
My continuing education in the field of organizational management was enhanced with several meetings
during the past year. The ANA Lobbyist meeting, the ANA Executive Enterprise Conference, and the American
Society of Association Executives Great Ideas meetings were all part of the process of working to stay “on top”
of the world that is management of an organization. SCNA also provided a continuing education opportunity for
Rosie Robinson to increase her expertise with the latest iteration of our computer operating system.
During all this time, Rosie Robinson, Assistant to the CEO, and I have continued to evaluate every part of
the operational infrastructure of SCNA. Our goal is to create the best possible infrastructure that we can given
the realities of time, money, and the current size of the staff.
Meanwhile, the “regular” work of SCNA has been continuing and has moved the organization forward in
a number of ways. So here we go:
The Career Center, part of our work with YourMembership the successor to Affinscape, has maintained
royalty income for SCNA. While royalty income has been paid as it has been due, we have been most
disappointed at the action for the first quarter of the year. We have communicated with YourMembership that
we are not pleased with this turn of events and have been assured that they are not happy about it either. We
have seen a slight increase in effort on their part, but, only time will tell if that translates into the dollars that we
have come to expect.
The royalty program with Marsh, now Mercer, continues.
The distribution of the SCNURSE to all LPNs, RNs, including APRNS, members of the General
Assembly and Congressional Delegations as well as opportunities to share with all schools of nursing continues
through the good work of the Arthur L. Davis Agency. There is no cost to SCNA for this service
SCNA also communicates with those who wish to receive it, a member “Flash” of current topics each
week and we have updated the use of Facebook as well.
The finances of SCNA continue to hold as steady as is possible. This year has seen a significant decline
in programs and workshops of our Chapters and frankly this is something that will need to be looked at very
