Current Year Activities:
It is with pleasure that I submit the following summary of notable activities of the committees under the
Commission Chair for Professional Advocacy and Development.
Continuing Education Approver Committee (CEAC): In January 2014, SCNA CEO, Judith Thompson
submitted an application for approver accreditation to the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
to continue the SCNA’s status as an accredited approver of continuing education. The renewal process is still
in progress and requires the submission of a self-study, which is due in November 2014. The usual review of
policies and associated revisions were conducted in February 2014 in compliance with ANCC guidelines.
Extension Guidelines for CEAC Approved Activities and Approved Provider Units Extensions
and the Policy for Suspension and Revocation of Approval were proposed and approved on
February 28, 2014.
Statement of Philosophy on Continuing Nursing Education and the CEAC Policy for
Consideration of Previously Denied Applications were also reviewed and approved in January
2014 without revisions.
CEAC Policy Monitoring Process was reviewed and revised in February 2013.
The appropriate fees related to ANCC renewal will be paid in September 2014 ($5000.00).
CEAC has been involved in extended consultation with one provider this year in efforts to achieve
compliance. We look forward to resolution of this matter shortly.
