About the Bachelor of Dance
The Bachelor of Dance offered by the
VCA is the pre-eminent course in Australia
for dance education and training and
is renowned for producing outstanding
contemporary dance performers. Graduates
are destined for professional careers in
Australia and overseas.
The Bachelor of Dance offers intensive,
specialist dance training and encourages
experimentation, exploration and artistic
enquiry to produce versatile, collaborative
dance artists.
With an emphasis on performance,
choreographic practice and research,
graduates can become artistic leaders
in local, national and international dance
communities. VCA Dance attracts highly
motivated, disciplined and creative dancers
who are interested in shaping the future of
the profession.
VCA Dance offers an intimate studio-theatre
and five purpose-built dance studios,
designed for dance and choreography.
Video editing suites and seminar rooms,
support the delivery of subjects such
as anatomy, music, dance analysis and
performance management.
VCA Dance staff includes eminent teachers
and practising artists in contemporary
dance and ballet who have worked
professionally with dance companies in
Australia and overseas. Specialist teachers,
guest lecturers, visiting choreographers and
associations with a range of professional
dance companies connect students with
the wider dance and performing arts sector.

Scholarships
Faculty-wide scholarships, awards
and prizes are available including the
Commonwealth Learning Scholarships,
as well as course-specific scholarships,
awards and prizes. There are six awards/
scholarships available to international
Bachelor of Dance students during their
degree, for highly talented and/or most
improved students. The list of prizes on offer

Careers
As a student in the Bachelor of Dance,
you will be trained to a high level in ballet
and contemporary dance, with regular
performances each semester providing you
with the real experience of a professional
environment. You will be encouraged to
speculate, to take creative risks, to be
articulate, socially conscious and develop
your own artistic language to enable you
to graduate as a self-determined and
autonomous artist.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Dance
are well positioned to contribute to
and engage at an international level as
performers, choreographers, freelance
and artistic directors of dance ensembles,
collaborators, teachers and researchers.
