Depth
Developing your specialisation
The Bachelor of Dramatic Art is a three-year
intensive actor-training program, designed
to train an Autonomous Artist. The structure
of the course provides intensive skills
training, performance-making projects,
studio productions and a wide variety of
performance opportunities. The structure of
the course incorporates skills classes in the
morning and rehearsals in the afternoon.
Breadth
Knowledge across disciplines
In this multi-disciplinary arts environment,
students in the Bachelor of Dramatic Art will
undertake subjects through the Centre for
Ideas. The common curriculum is a crossdisciplinary
sequence of subjects examining
the interaction between artistic practice and
wider social, political and cultural contexts.
The integration of intensive specialist dance
training with critical studies aims to produce
artists who are not only highly technically
and artistically skilled but also culturally and
technologically literate.
Extra requirements
Entry into the Bachelor of Dramatic Art is
by audition. In addition to submitting the
International Undergraduate Application
form, you must also download the relevant
Supplementary Admission Information
Sheet for Dramatic Art and submit the
audition or folio materials as listed on
the sheet. Supplementary Admission
Information Sheets are available from the
VCA website www.vca.unimelb.edu.au
under International.
You should have successfully completed a
Year 12 course of study or equivalent. You
are required to provide evidence of your
English language proficiency, normally
an IELTS academic test certificate with a
minimum score of 6.5. Please submit your
application to the University by the end of
October.
Information for students
applying in 2011 and 2012
While course titles may change, the Faculty
of the VCA and Music will continue to offer
courses specialising in Dance, Drama,
Production, Art, Film and Television, and
Music in 2011 and 2012. Entry will be
talent-based – by interview, portfolio and/or
audition – as well as successful completion
of English to the required standard.
Graduate study opportunities
Graduates of the Bachelor of Dramatic Art
have the opportunity for further study in
specialist areas such as Directing, Actor
Training, Voice, Performance Creation, and
Animateuring. Graduates may also apply
for a range of professional programs across
the University of Melbourne.
