Creating a world of career opportunities Graduates find employment in private architectural firms where they work on residential, commercial and institutional projects. They may also work in government departments where they assist in the development of major projects. Some graduates run their own architectural practices while others move into related careers (further study may be required), such as: industrial design, furniture design, interior design, landscape design, urban design, urban planning, facility management, project management and development, conservation and heritage management, and public art. The course has a strong clinical emphasis and students get hands-on experience in the clinical school as well as at hospitals and hearing care centres throughout Victoria. Lectures and practical sessions allow students to build on their scientific background while providing a challenging and comprehensive program of studies carefully designed to prepare for practice as an audiologist. The course covers: diagnostic hearing assessment of infants, children and adults, including electrophysiological assessment; management of hearing disorders, including hearing aid fitting and evaluation; assessment of vestibular (balance) disorders; and assessment and postoperative management of cochlear implant patients. Lectures and practical sessions cover acoustics, anatomy and physiology, electro-physiological assessment, pathologies of the auditory system, hearing devices and rehabilitation and paediatric and clinical audiology. Creating a world of career opportunities Audiologists are in high demand in Australia and this interesting and varied career also has excellent job opportunities overseas. Graduates move straight into paid employment with excellent entry-level remuneration. Audiologists are employed in semigovernment agencies (e.g. Australian Hearing), major hospitals, private practice, community health centres, universities and schools for hearing-impaired children. Professional and international degree recognition Completion of the Masters of Clinical Audiology fulfils the requirements for certification and employment as an audiologist in Australia. 81
