Additional copies
(1) After approval of the thesis, and before conferment of the degree, the candidate must submit the text of the
thesis in electronic format and the same text in a further two printed copies (unless special permission has
been granted to submit fewer than two) which must comply with the following requirements:
(a) the two printed copies must be bound between hard covers with a glued spine. The title of the thesis
and the name of the candidate must appear on the cover as well as on the spine of each bound copy.
(2) A candidate for the LLD degree whose thesis has been accepted is requested to submit, in addition to the
additional number of copies stipulated in (1) above, a further bound copy which will be forwarded by the
office of the Executive Dean to the library of the Appeal Court.
It should be borne in mind that the degree will not be awarded unless the student complies with all the
requirements, including the submission of the additional copies, before a date set by the University.

Students must please ascertain that the electronic copy is not damaged and is readily accessible by the University.
Re-admission after failure
Doctor’s degrees
No person may present himself/herself for the examination more than once, except with the special permission
of Senate.
If a candidate’s thesis is not accepted, one or more examination copies may, at the exclusive discretion of the University,
be returned to the candidate after the lapse of one year. These copies remain the property of the University.
Masters degrees
No person may submit a dissertation or a dissertation of limited scope for examination more than once without the
special permission of Senate. For the degrees MA in Clinical Psychology, MMus with specialisation in Performance,
MEd with specialisation in Guidance and Counselling, as well as for Option 1 of the Masters degree in Industrial and
Organisational Psychology, no person may repeat any part of the examination without the special permission of Senate.
