(1) A student must hold:<br />

(a) a <strong>South</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n LLB degree; Or<br />

(b) a foreign LLB (minimum four<br />

years)<br />

Or (c) the degree <strong>of</strong> Baccalaureus<br />

Procurationis, plus one <strong>of</strong> the<br />

following:<br />

(i) successful completion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

attorney’s admission<br />

examinations; or<br />

(ii) four approved LLB modules,<br />

selected from the<br />

elective modules <strong>of</strong> the LLB<br />

degree<br />

or (d) a foreign three year LLB<br />

degree plus one <strong>of</strong> the<br />

following:<br />

(i) admission to the legal<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>ession in the relevant<br />

country; or<br />

(ii) four approved LLB modules,<br />

selected from the<br />

elective modules <strong>of</strong> the LLB<br />

degree<br />

or a relevant postgraduate<br />

diploma in a relevant field<br />

or(e) a foreign LLM degree<br />

(2) Students choosing a paper<br />

will be assumed to have required<br />

knowledge at an undergraduate<br />

level to enable them to embark on<br />

a study <strong>of</strong> the LLM paper.<br />

(3) Before a student’s application<br />

for registration can be considered,<br />

his/her academic acceptability<br />

must be confirmed by the College<br />

2011 IS THE LAST TIME THAT<br />

THIS SPECIALISATION WILL<br />

BE AVAILABLE.<br />

A postgraduate diploma in<br />

Medical Law will be introduced<br />

from 2012.<br />

Coursework modules must be<br />

completed during the January/<br />

February 2014 examinations<br />

and the research proposal<br />

module (MPLLW91) and the<br />

short dissertation by 2016.<br />

Students will have until 2016<br />

to complete the degree.<br />

Students are advised to do<br />

MPLLW91 and a dissertation<br />

in the second year <strong>of</strong> study<br />

as the course work forms the<br />

background to the dissertation.<br />

A student must have met<br />

the outcome <strong>of</strong> MPLLW91<br />

(a research proposal) before<br />

registering for the short<br />

dissertation. NB! Students<br />

may register for MPLLW91 at<br />

any time <strong>of</strong> the year during<br />

registration periods. If a student<br />

wishes to complete his/her<br />

studies in one year (students<br />

must adhere to the registration<br />

dates) he/she must register<br />

and pass the research proposal<br />

(MPLLW91) as early as possible<br />

to be able to register for the<br />

short dissertation for that<br />

specific academic year Students<br />

will be assumed to have<br />

the required undergraduate<br />

knowledge for any course. The<br />

College Executive will confirm<br />

the academic acceptability <strong>of</strong><br />

each student.<br />
