Ah PERRIXE '41 has left us recently. He's<br />

now Xalional Campaign Director Jor the Mental<br />

Health Assn. All XD men in thb area join mc<br />

in wishing Al the best in his new work. His devoted<br />

ser\*icc to Xotrc <strong>Dame</strong> Is well recognized<br />

from Fr. Hcsburgli on down and much <strong>of</strong> our<br />

fund-raising success Is due to the .AL PERRIXES<br />

who gave so unstintingly <strong>of</strong> their time.<br />

HARRY DURKIX is now a married man after<br />

7 sucli a long bachelorhood. His mom and dad<br />

honored him at an open house in their Belmar<br />

home June 5 . . . his lovely \Wfc is from out<br />

Tucson way.<br />

ART ARMENTO '61 <strong>of</strong> Alpine has the luckiest<br />

brother at XD . . . young ED ARMEXTO '65<br />

was picked as <strong>of</strong>ficial chaperone for the school to<br />

accompany other seniors to Bermuda during semester<br />

break . . . how* times have changed.<br />

VIN'CE COMMISA *43 is Asst US Attorney in<br />

Xe^vark.<br />

Xew Jersey boasts a number <strong>of</strong> coaches and<br />

teachers In this area: FRAXK PLATT '42 is one<br />

<strong>of</strong> Xew Jersey's most successful basketball coaches<br />

after a vcr>' fine start in Western Pennsylvania.<br />

Frank coaches Tcnafly High School which is perennially<br />

a power in county circles . . . he's also<br />

an outstanding teacher there. FRAXK GARGIULO<br />

'61 is also coaching and teaching in St. Joseph's<br />

High School in West Xew York. . . . Frank will<br />

soon be a head coach in one <strong>of</strong> the local schools.<br />

TOM LIGGIO '62 just finished his two-year Army<br />

stint and is now working locally. CHUCK SCRI-<br />

VAXICH '61 from Rutherford, one <strong>of</strong> the finest<br />

baseball players ever to come out <strong>of</strong> Xew Jersey,<br />

is now coaching and teaching in Mont\'aIe, X.J.<br />

The school is St. Joseph's DJoccsan Scliool,<br />

ROBERT ST.ACK '41 is leaving us for Toledo,<br />

Ohio. Bob, originally from Cleveland, will be assuming<br />

a new position with his firm there. BILL<br />

SCULLY '43 is from Tenafly and we sec each<br />

other <strong>of</strong>ten, what with our daughters being In the<br />

same class, scout troop, etc. JIM McGOLDRICK<br />

'39 u*as having dinner with his lovely wife at the<br />

Clinton Inn In Tenafly recently when I ran into<br />

him. . . . Jim looks as trim and fit as he did<br />

when he turned over chc shillelagh to JOHXXY<br />

KELLY '40. . . . It is now almost 27 years<br />

since Ed SuIIi\*an wrote that now-famous article<br />

in the XY Daily Xews about Jim and his teammates<br />

when they went out to Southern California<br />

and lost to the Trojans ... he told about what<br />

a fine group <strong>of</strong> men they were who, even though<br />

they lost a hcartbreakcr, were still gentlemen in<br />

every sense. The same can be said, no doubt, <strong>of</strong><br />

another group <strong>of</strong> boys who more recently lost a<br />

hcartbreakcr.<br />

PETE LUSARDI '48 had JOHX HUARTE '65<br />

and PAUL HORXUXG '57 at the Schaefer Pavilion<br />

in the XY World's Fair recently as part <strong>of</strong> a promotional<br />

campaign.<br />

JOE BYRXE III and BILL WALDRO.V are<br />

stalwarts <strong>of</strong> the First Friday Luncheon Club <strong>of</strong><br />

Essex County in Xewark. . . . I manage to see<br />

them monthly.<br />

BOB TAXZOLA '64 is now with General Motors<br />

Overseas Corp. and working toward his master's<br />

degree . . . living right nearby in Tcnafly is our<br />

oldest living alumnus and Monogram winner, SIMOX<br />

O'BRIEN '08. Simon was a lineman then and is<br />

nou- retired after a long successful tenure as a<br />

teacher in Xew York.<br />

Two other outstanding young graduates arc from<br />

this well-knowii town <strong>of</strong> Tcnafly. . . . JACK<br />

EXGLER '60 and BOB EXGLER '63. Jack is<br />

studying for the priesthood as an Orator>- father<br />

and Bob is giving a year <strong>of</strong> his life as a lay apostolate<br />

in Colorado.<br />

Chicago<br />

Xotrc <strong>Dame</strong>'s golfing football coacli, ARA PAR-<br />

SEGHIAX, w*3S honored guest at the August 2 golf<br />

outing <strong>of</strong> the XD Club <strong>of</strong> Chicago.<br />

Ara showed the Chicago duffers around the course<br />

and then gave them some comments on what to<br />

look for in football this fall at the prize-aw*arding<br />

dinner that evening.<br />

Games and other entertainment—including a showing<br />

<strong>of</strong> "The 1964 Highlights"—were on hand for<br />

the non-golfers.<br />

Cincinnati<br />

The cool and elegant en\-ironment <strong>of</strong> the Wiedemann<br />

Penthouse Garden provided the scene for the<br />

X'otrc <strong>Dame</strong> Club <strong>of</strong> Cincinnati annual elections in<br />

June. The fottouing <strong>of</strong>ficers WCTC elected: President<br />

CHUCK LIMA; Vice-President BOB FROLICHER;<br />

Secretary BILL BURKE; and Treasurer JACK<br />

MULVIHILL. Following the elections a rousing<br />

applause was given outgoing president PAUL KEL-<br />

LEY for his successful administration <strong>of</strong> the Club<br />

over the past year.<br />

Also at this meeting a special X'otrc <strong>Dame</strong> plaque<br />

was presented to .ALBERT CASTELLIXI, recently<br />

retired member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Trustees.<br />

He has loyally served the <strong>University</strong> in many capacities<br />

for a number <strong>of</strong> years and his award wasrichly<br />

dcser\'cd.<br />

The annual golf outing was held this year on<br />

July 21 at Hyde Park Country Club. REES LABAR<br />

chairmanncd the event. Twenty-seven alumni played<br />

golf while 41 were in attendance for dinner. BOB<br />

McCAFFERT^' xx-as low gn^ and JACK "PIVOT'*<br />

MULVIHILL was high. Many prizes were awarded<br />

on the Blind Bogey System. BOB BURKE gave his<br />

usual spiritual address while guest speaker for the<br />

evening, assistant basketball coach LARRY STAV-<br />

ERMAX, gave us a rundown on the upcoming football<br />

and basketball seasons.<br />

The picnic which the alumnt gives each year for<br />

the incoming freshmen and their fathers was held<br />

on September 7 at Maple Ridge Lodge. Fifteen newfreshmen<br />

and their fathers were our guests for tbc'<br />

afternoon s<strong>of</strong>tball game followed by a steak dinner<br />

and the showing <strong>of</strong> the highlights <strong>of</strong> the 1964 foot^<br />

ball season in the evening.<br />

Plans are now being formulated by chainnan<br />
