Father RICHARD T. JOHN OSC is the new<br />
prior <strong>of</strong> the Crosier Monastery at Wawasce, Ind.<br />
"JUNGLE JIM" MARTIN, end and tackle under<br />
Frank Leahy, has retired from pr<strong>of</strong>essional football,<br />
ending his career with the Washington Redskins.<br />
Jungle Jim led the Redskins in scoring last season<br />
with 35 extra, points and 12 field goals. An All-<br />
America tackle his senior year at ND, Jim earned<br />
the nickname for his WW II record in the South<br />
Padfic.<br />
ROBERT G. RUETZ was director <strong>of</strong> the Opera<br />
Workshop at Southwest Missouri State College for<br />

Two members <strong>of</strong> the Class <strong>of</strong> '52 have finally<br />
cashed In on tlicir efforts to free a classmate and<br />
his family from the poverty and oppression <strong>of</strong><br />
Castro's Cuba. DON MULLANEY and JOSEPH<br />
B'\'RNE, both members <strong>of</strong> the Dearborn, Mich.<br />
ND Club, misei^ $1,'H)0 trom <strong>University</strong> alumni to<br />
finance the moving and resettlement <strong>of</strong> ALBERTO<br />
SAU^\R, his wife and their four children. About<br />
$800 <strong>of</strong> the money went for plane tickets for the<br />
family to Windsor, Canada, via Mexico City. The<br />
classmates, both Ford Motor Co. engineers, have<br />
arranged for several Canadian firms to interview<br />
the civil-engineering graduate Salazar. Son <strong>of</strong> an<br />
oil-company executive, Alberto w*as refused a job in<br />
the nationalized industries because he refused to<br />
join the Cuban Communist Party.<br />
CARL R. CUNNINGH.\M has been assigned<br />
to work a year with .Alfred Frankenstein,<br />
music and art critic with the San Francisco<br />
Chronicle^ as part <strong>of</strong> a project for training music<br />
critics at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Southern California.<br />
Only five persons arc enrolled in the unique program<br />
operating under a Rockefeller Foundation<br />
grant.<br />
JOSEPH BELLON is another ND grad moving<br />
up in the world <strong>of</strong> CBS. He was recently named<br />
manager <strong>of</strong> business affairs for CBS News.<br />
Capt. WILLIAM F. DELANEY USAF has been<br />
awarded tltc Air Force Commendation Medal at<br />
Kelly Mr Force Base, Tex.<br />
DR. ARTHUR SCHULTE has been raised to<br />
the rank <strong>of</strong> associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor in the college <strong>of</strong><br />
business administration at the U. <strong>of</strong> Portland.<br />
GEORGE F. HERO, a Miami attorney and president<br />
<strong>of</strong> the ND Club <strong>of</strong> Greater Miami, took on<br />
a tax deduction recently when he married the former<br />
Miss Marie K. Zerbe>*. George also writes that<br />
the Miami Club has made arrangements for altmmi<br />
coming to see the ND-MiamI game November 27.<br />
Five hundred rooms are available at the Deauxille<br />
Hotel on Miami Beach for the entire weekend at<br />
57 per person, double daily iKcupancy. A sevencourse<br />
dinner and full-course brunch can be added<br />

I regret having to pass on the sad news <strong>of</strong> the<br />
sudden death <strong>of</strong> JOE TRUCCO on April 28, as the<br />
result <strong>of</strong> an accident on a construction site in<br />
Lombard, 111. Joe is survived by his wife Ann and<br />
seven children In Elmhurst, 111. I know that he and<br />
his family will be continually in your prayers.<br />
Received a note a while back from PAUL<br />
FARMER, extolling the virtues <strong>of</strong> Albuquerque,<br />
N.M., where he has staked a claim to continuous<br />
sunshine. Paul is controller <strong>of</strong> the Bradbury and<br />
Stamm Construction Co., which specializes In commercial<br />
buildings. QUENTIN MISCHKE and JIM<br />
RYAN are also local residents; Quentin Is assistant<br />
vice-president <strong>of</strong> the Albuquerque National Bank<br />
and Jim is manager <strong>of</strong> the AK'arado Hotel, reportedly<br />

and my underground tells mc that as assistant<br />
vice-president <strong>of</strong> the Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh,<br />
George has been spending considerable time "do\\'n<br />
under,'' seeking out investment opportunities in<br />
Australia for some oi that Pennsylvania capital.<br />
Elsewhere In the financial world, JOE PAGLIARI<br />
was recently appointed treasurer and counsel <strong>of</strong><br />
the Percy Wilson Mortgage Company in Chicago.<br />
As you can see, material is rather scarce to maintain<br />
this colum's standing as otic <strong>of</strong> the highlights<br />
<strong>of</strong> American literature. To assist in the achievement<br />
<strong>of</strong> the coveted Pulitzer Prize for Class Column<br />
Reporting, I would be most appreciative <strong>of</strong> some<br />

EDWARD DUGGAN JR. and his five children<br />
attended commencement ceremonies this summer —<br />
to see Mrs. Janet Duggan, wife and mother, receive<br />
her bachelor <strong>of</strong> science degree in nursing<br />
from Seton Hall U., Newark, N.J. Janet says the<br />
degree is the result <strong>of</strong> family collaboration: the<br />
children agreed by being born at times not interfering<br />
with studies (she has had all <strong>of</strong> their five<br />
children in the last five years). Any further study<br />
planned? Ed wants to get his MA, *'so it's his turn<br />
now," Janet sa\-s.<br />
DONALD K. ROSS has been named executive<br />
director <strong>of</strong> the ND Foundation, succeeding JAMES<br />
W. FRICK '51, who has been named \'ice-president<br />
<strong>of</strong> public relations and development. Don has been<br />
assistant director in cliarge <strong>of</strong> the Chicago <strong>of</strong>fice<br />
since 1962.<br />

assistant dean <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Science. He has<br />
