is married to the former Dorothy<br />
Koches and the father <strong>of</strong> Thomas,<br />
Maureen, Sheila and Patricia.<br />
Cooney joined the <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong><br />
Foundation as an assbtant director in<br />
July, 1961. For three-and-a-half years<br />
previous to that he was staff announcer<br />
and newscaster on \VNDU-TV and<br />
radio, the Universit)' stations. In his<br />
Foundation post, Cooney was engaged<br />
in fund raising and related activities in<br />
several states, including Illinois, Kansas,<br />
Missouri, Oklahoma and New<br />
Me.xico. Cooney received an AB degree<br />
in communication arts from <strong>Notre</strong><br />
<strong>Dame</strong> in 1959. As an undergraduate<br />
he was active in the <strong>University</strong> Theatre;<br />
since graduation he has been director<br />
<strong>of</strong> the South Bend Civic Theatre.<br />
A native <strong>of</strong> Chicago, 111., Cooney is a<br />
graduate <strong>of</strong> St. Mary's High School,<br />
Albuquerque, N. M. He was employed<br />
by station KQUE and the FBI while<br />
there from 1953 to 1955 before entering<br />
<strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong>. He is married to the<br />
former Anne Rody <strong>of</strong> Elkhart, Ind.<br />
They have two daughters and one son.<br />
Gibbons was appointed assistant director<br />
<strong>of</strong> public relations in January,<br />
1963. He had served as assistant baseball<br />
and basketball coach at the <strong>University</strong><br />
since 1956, after pitching for<br />
Jake Kine's baseball squad and playing<br />
guard for Johnnie Jordan's basketball<br />
team as an undergraduate. He received<br />
an AB d^ee from <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong><br />
in 1953 and served t^vo years in the<br />
U. S. Army and was basketball and<br />
baseball coach at Chicago's Mt. Carmel<br />
High School, 1955-56. He managed<br />
the Pittsburgh Pirates' farm club in<br />
Kingsport, Tenn., during the summers <strong>of</strong><br />
1960 and 1961. He is married to the<br />
"former Betty Ann McGinn <strong>of</strong> Jamaica,<br />
N.Y. They have four children: Nancy<br />
Marie, Brian James, Kevin and<br />
Michael.<br />
