Twent>-ninc Palms, Calif. He is one <strong>of</strong> only four<br />

lieutenant colonels to hold the position <strong>of</strong> battalion<br />

"ghosted" a book on coaching basketball for U- <strong>of</strong><br />

Rochester basketball coach Lyle Brown. Titled<br />

Offensive and Defensive Drills for Winning Basketball,<br />

the book contains some 250 game-situation<br />

drills and a ycar-around plan for player improvement.<br />

ND basketball coach JOHN'N'Y DEE is one<br />

<strong>of</strong> the endorsers on the jacket.<br />

JOHN A. O'CONNOR, former associate editor<br />

<strong>of</strong> the San Francisco Sfonitor, has been named<br />

editor <strong>of</strong> the proposed weekly paper to be published<br />

by the diocese <strong>of</strong> \Vilmington, Del.<br />

BROTHER RAPHAEL WILSON CSC, associate<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> biology at the <strong>University</strong>, participated<br />

in a conference on radiation biology* at the Oak<br />

Ridge Institute, Oak Ridge, Tcnn., in August. He<br />

also lectured at a summer institute at Argonne<br />

Our prayers and condolences to AL J. SPAHN<br />

<strong>of</strong> Elkhart, Ind., on the death <strong>of</strong> his son, Paul, 16,<br />

July 6. The young Spahn was working with a younger<br />

brother and a neighbor on tlie family farm when<br />

a tractor tipped over on him.<br />

Dr. WILLIAM T. BONAVTCH has resigned as<br />

associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> marketing management at<br />

the Unii-crsity to become director <strong>of</strong> the department<br />

<strong>of</strong> marketing, school <strong>of</strong> commerce and finance, St.<br />

Louis U. in the coming fall. Dr. Bonwich has been<br />

with the ND faculty since 1951 and is considered a<br />

specialist in the field <strong>of</strong> retailing.<br />

^VfLLIAKf B. BALL, general counsel for the<br />

Pennsylvania Catholic ^Velfare Committee, was<br />

commencement speaker at St. Francis College,<br />

Loretto, Pa., in June and received an honorarv*<br />

Doctor <strong>of</strong> Lau's degree from the college.<br />

RICHARD C. PEJEAU has been named general<br />

agent in Cleveland for Massachusetts Mutual Life<br />

Insurance Co., succeeding his father, Clarence E.<br />

Pejeau. Dick received his Chartered Life Underwriter<br />

designation in 1956 and is a past president<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Cleveland Life Underwriters' Association.<br />

BILL DIOGUARDI '47 MSE<br />

William P, Dioguardi '47 MS '48 has<br />

earned a place in the spotlight for nabbing<br />

eight state championships as varsity baseball<br />

coach at Montclair State College, N.J. during<br />

the past 17 years.<br />

In his years <strong>of</strong> coaching at Montclair<br />

Bill has amassed a total <strong>of</strong> 234 victories<br />

against 114 defeats. He has had only one<br />

season below the .500 mark. Most recently<br />

his teams have gained the New Jersey State<br />

College Championship tide in 1963 and in<br />

1964; his 1965 team made it to second place<br />

with a 14-8 record.<br />

Bill also was named Coach <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

by the New Jersey State College Conference<br />

and district Coach <strong>of</strong> the Year by the National<br />

.Association <strong>of</strong> Inter-collegiate Athletics,<br />

both awards coming after the 1964<br />

season.<br />

Freshman baseball coach at ND while<br />

he was working toward his master's degree<br />

in education, Bill also is an associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

<strong>of</strong> physical education at Montclair<br />

and assistant to the athletic director.<br />

Bill and his wife, Theresa, have five children:<br />

Mariann, 11; Gina, 9; Billy, 7;<br />

Kenneth, 4; and Cecy, 9, a foster child from<br />

Cuba who has been with the Dioguardi<br />

family since September, 1962.<br />

When not coaching baseball, Bill is a<br />

collegiate basketball <strong>of</strong>ficial in the Metropolitan-New<br />

Jersey area. He is a statequalified<br />

football, basketball and, <strong>of</strong> course,<br />

baseball <strong>of</strong>ficial.<br />

The Red Cross and the Boy Scouts also<br />

find time in Bill's busy schedule as one <strong>of</strong><br />

the top young baseball coaches <strong>of</strong> the East.<br />

has been appointed <strong>of</strong>fice manager <strong>of</strong> South Bend<br />

Drafting Supply, Inc. He was formerly with the<br />

trailer diwion <strong>of</strong> Clark Equipment Co.<br />

JAMES E. GORAfA.X has been appointed vicepresident<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Cliase Manhattan Bank <strong>of</strong> New<br />

York, according to a recent article in The New<br />

York Times. Jim joined Cliase Manhattan in 1949<br />

and became assistant treasurer In 1958 and second<br />

vice-president in 1962. He is a member <strong>of</strong> the bank's<br />

real estate and mortgage loan department.<br />

THOM.AS F. BRODEN JR., assistant dean <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Universit>-'s Law School, was honored recently by<br />

being invested as a Knight <strong>of</strong> St. Grcgorj'* The<br />

honor is granted by the Pope in recognition <strong>of</strong> laymen's<br />

work in Church and community. This honor<br />

comes only shortly after Tom's appointment as<br />

assistant dean <strong>of</strong> the Law School, succeeding Pr<strong>of</strong>.<br />

been appointed and confirmed as County District<br />

Judge, Bergen County, N.J. Tom was sewer attorney<br />
