is celebrated here in two sections: Tlie Early Bird<br />

St. Patrick's Night Party and again in April on<br />

the occasion <strong>of</strong> the annual <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Alumni<br />

Pilgrimage from the US. But the Victory March<br />

was played and played again on both occasions.<br />

DONAHUE '67, both <strong>of</strong> Cleveland, Ohio. Mike<br />

Universal <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Night was obsen-cd by<br />

the St. Louts Club with cocktails and dinner at<br />

the Colony Inn. Our guest speaker was the REV.<br />

JOHN WALSH CSC, <strong>University</strong> vice-president.<br />

.•\s always, his message was vcr\' informative as<br />

well as entertaining. DENNY TROESTER '57 <strong>of</strong><br />

the Foundation Office, was also in town on business<br />

and attended the UND Night dinner.<br />

CONNIE LANE '57, retiring president <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Club, handled all the arrangements for UND Night<br />

and presided over the meeting. All the members<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Club would like to take this opportunity to<br />

congratulate and thank Connie for doing such an<br />

excellent job during his year as president.<br />

Two awards were given at the UND Night<br />

banquet. DR. WILLLAM GILLESPIE '44 was<br />

named <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Man <strong>of</strong> the Year for his outstanding<br />

ser\-icc to the community, to his pr<strong>of</strong>ession<br />

and to the club over the years. Bob Harness<br />

who will be starting as a freshman at <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong><br />

in September, received the St. Louis Club Scholarship.<br />

New <strong>of</strong>Hccrs were elected and installed recently<br />

Spokane<br />

FATHER HESBURGH was the guest speaker at<br />

the Club's observance <strong>of</strong> Universal <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong><br />

Nigiit on Saturday, Xfay 22. Tlie afTair Iiad been<br />

postponed in order to coincide with Father's<br />

scheduled appearance in the Commencement exercises<br />

<strong>of</strong> Gonzaga <strong>University</strong>. The Elizabethan Room<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Davenport Hotel was the scene <strong>of</strong> the largest<br />

gathering <strong>of</strong> members and friends in the history<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Club. Local alumni <strong>of</strong> St. Mary's College<br />

and <strong>of</strong> Portland <strong>University</strong> were among those<br />

attending.<br />

recipient. Father was introduced for his address<br />

by DR. JIM ROTCHFORD '48 who was in<br />

toastmaster for the gala event and announced the<br />

Plans are being made for the Annual Retreat<br />

which has been scheduled for the weekend o(<br />

October 15. Since that is an open date on <strong>Notre</strong><br />

<strong>Dame</strong>'s football schedule, it is hoped that there<br />

will be a good attendance.<br />

The Football TV Party on October 23 will be<br />

once again at the home <strong>of</strong> Mrs. Robert Rotchford,<br />

mother <strong>of</strong> DR. JIM ROTCHFORD, who has gT»ciously<br />

in\*ited the Club to be her guests as they<br />

were last year and view the game on large screen<br />

color TV.<br />

Salina<br />

The Salina ND Club held their annual Summer<br />

Frolic July 22 with food and fun for all alumni<br />

and friends at Pioneer Lake.<br />

The Club also arranged for a trip to the ND-<br />

Northwestern game October 2. The members<br />

stayed in the Bismarck Hotel in Chicago and then<br />

bussed to SD Saturday for the game.<br />

Toledo<br />

President BILL THEE5 has relinquished his post<br />

Triple Cities<br />

The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Alumni Club <strong>of</strong><br />

the Triple Cities was honored by the presence <strong>of</strong><br />

Alumni Executive Secretary, JAMES E. ARM-<br />

STRONG, at our observance <strong>of</strong> Universal <strong>Notre</strong><br />

<strong>Dame</strong> Night. The affair was held on April 2S<br />

at LaMonica's Restaurant, Binghamtoo, and was<br />

attended by 70 alumni and friends.<br />

This year's <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Atan <strong>of</strong> the Year Award<br />

was presented to Club President JOSEPH P. GAL-<br />

LOW.AY '51. In addition to his duties as president<br />

for the past several years Joe has previously served<br />

as club secretary, participated actively in Challenge<br />

I and Challenge II and has served as chairman <strong>of</strong><br />

the local high schools' College Night representing<br />

<strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> for the past several years.<br />

Virginia<br />

The <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Club <strong>of</strong> Virginia celebrated<br />

Universal <strong>Notre</strong> <strong>Dame</strong> Night at St. Mary's Church<br />

in Richmond on April 26.<br />

More than 150 persons attended the dinner and<br />

heard assistant athletic director HUGH DEVORE<br />

as the principal speaker.<br />

CH.\RLES M. MORRISON '38 was named Man<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Year.<br />

A showing <strong>of</strong> "The 1964 Football HigfaHghu"<br />

concluded the program.<br />

Washington, D.C.<br />

The ND Club <strong>of</strong> Washington, D.C, held their<br />

UND Night observance June 8 at a buffet dinner.<br />

The Hon. John E. Moss, Congressman from California,<br />

Western Woshington<br />

Hat Island, four miles <strong>of</strong>f the Washington coast<br />

in Pugct Soimd, was the site <strong>of</strong>'the Western Washington<br />

ND Club's annual picnic August 14.<br />

Boats ferried the alumni, families and friends oat<br />

to the isbnd where barbecue pits, swimming, horseshoes,<br />

S<strong>of</strong>tball, fishing and other entertainment<br />

awaited.<br />
