All-<strong>St</strong>ate Musicians<br />

Twenty-one Marksmen musicians traveled to<br />

San Marcos to perform in the <strong>Texas</strong> Private<br />

<strong>School</strong> Music Educators Association’s All-<strong>St</strong>ate<br />

Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra<br />

Concerts on February 2, 2013. Making his fifth<br />

appearance in the All-<strong>St</strong>ate Orchestra, William<br />

Chang ’13 was named Concertmaster for the<br />

third consecutive year, and sophomore William<br />

Su was named Associate Concertmaster.<br />

All-<strong>St</strong>ate Orchestra musicians on violin<br />

included William Chang ’13, Concertmaster<br />

(5-year All-<strong>St</strong>ate member), William Su ’15,<br />

Assistant Concertmaster, Rohan Pinto ’15,<br />

Eugene Song ’16, Timothy Cho ’15, Hansen<br />

Kuo ’13 (4-year All-<strong>St</strong>ate member), Raffy<br />

Salcedo ’13, Joshua Choe ’16, Jonathan Ng ’14,<br />

and Eric Li ’16. Rounding out the All-<strong>St</strong>ate<br />

Orchestra were violists Sam Libby ’13 and Kevin<br />

Kim ’16, cellist Christopher Chen ’17, and<br />

principal bassist Patrick Magee ’17.<br />

Five Marksmen jazz musicians were<br />

selected for the All-<strong>St</strong>ate Jazz Ensemble and<br />

comprised a fourth <strong>of</strong> the entire group:<br />

Nick Buckenham ’15, on tenor saxophone II,<br />

Chris Carter ’15, on baritone saxophone, Jorge<br />

Hinojosa ’13 on tenor trombone III, Chris<br />

Hicks ’13 on bass guitar, and Umer Nadir ’15<br />

on drum set II.<br />

<strong>St</strong>even Tsai ’13 and Robert He ’13 represented<br />

<strong>St</strong>. Mark’s on the clarinet in the All-<strong>St</strong>ate<br />

Concert Band.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents Present Papers at Colloquium<br />

Eight students from Lynne Weber’s AP<br />

English 12 class were selected to present their<br />

papers at the 2013 James Joyce Dubliners<br />

Colloquium, hosted at The Oakridge <strong>School</strong> on<br />

Feburary 6. The students are seniors Zach Alden,<br />

Zach Burdette, Will Chang, James Rowan,<br />

Warren Smith, Meyer Thalheimer, <strong>St</strong>eve Tsai,<br />

and Noah Yonack. Additionally, seniors Bryce<br />

Holcomb, Sam Libby, and Taubert Nadalini were<br />

invited to participate in the Colloquium’s Creative<br />

Writing Workshop, hosted by Luke Jacob, Dean<br />

<strong>of</strong> Curriculum, <strong>of</strong> Trinity Valley <strong>School</strong>.<br />
