Mike Shampain ’61:
Menter B. Terrill Society
Mike “Mickey” Shampain ’61 has fond memories of
his time at 10600 Preston Road. “I greatly enjoyed the
fellowship with classmates, friends, and with teachers,”
Mike recalls. “The structure, the classes, the opportunity
to participate in a range of activities, not to mention
the effect that St. Mark’s had on my spiritual side — the
School did a great deal for me, and I appreciate the
philosophy of building the boy into a complete man.”
Since Mike graduated in 1961, he has enjoyed staying connected to his classmates
through events and reunions, particularly his 50th Reunion. “The Reunion just felt
like we picked up where we left off. The fellowship and camaraderie that our class felt
while we were in school was still present, 50 years later. I think coming back together
gave us all an even greater appreciation for our time at St. Mark’s,” Mike says.
He decided to honor his father’s and mother’s memory by creating the Shampain
Family Scholarship in 1998 with an outright gift to the Campaign for St. Mark’s.
Through their many volunteer efforts in the Nashville community, Mike and his wife,
Pam, saw many bright students who never received the opportunities to advance their
education, so they wanted to provide those opportunities for students at St. Mark’s.
“Pam and I came to realize just how much St. Mark’s does to shape lives, and we wanted
to be a part of that process,” Mike says. As members of the Menter B. Terrill Society, Mike
and Pam have included St. Mark’s in their estate plans, ensuring that the School will
continue to benefit from their generosity and that the Shampain Family Scholarship
will continue to grow.
St. Mark’s has established the Menter B. Terrill Society to honor alumni and friends
who have included St. Mark’s in their long-term estate planning. Terrill Society members
who are at least 65 years of age will be recognized in The Centennial Challenge if they
notify the School of their intentions. If you have included St. Mark’s in your estate plans or
would like more information about the Menter B. Terrill Society, please contact Scott Jolly
in the Office of Development at 214.346.8123 or jollys@smtexas.org.
