Fine Arts Department Highlights & Awards
F In 2010, two Marksmen were named Presidential Scholars in the Arts for Band and
Ceramics, joining an elite group of 18 other artists honored in Washington, D.C.,
at a White House-sponsored ceremony.
F In the past two years, six Marksmen have been named as Finalists for the Presidential
Scholarship in the Arts for their work in Ceramics, Woodworking, Photography, and
2-D Art Painting, and more than 10 have received Honorable Mention.
F The St. Mark’s/Hockaday Drama Program won nine Cappie awards for their
outstanding acting and production work in 2011, including two for Lead Actor
in a play.
F The St. Mark’s Choir traveled to South Africa for a week of performances during the
summer of 2011 for their biannual Choir Tour and are headed to England this year.
F The Upper School Choir sang the National Anthem at a Dallas Mavericks home
game in March 2012.
F In 2012, The St. Mark’s Photography Program was named “Top Program” for the
sixth consecutive year by the Association of Texas Photography Instructors, winning
first place in three specific competition categories.
F This year, St. Mark’s students comprised a fourth of the Texas Private School Music
Educators Association All-State Jazz Ensemble. Fourteen St. Mark’s string players were
selected for the 2013 TPSMEA All-State Orchestra. In 2008, Marksmen comprised
nearly a third of the entire performing team.
F The film Drawings, produced by two Upper School students, was screened at the
2012 South by Southwest Film Festival’s Texas High School Film Competition.
