Library Skill Sets - An Introduction to<br />
Cataloguing<br />
Learn the basics <strong>of</strong> copy cataloguing,<br />
downloading records from several<br />
databases, updating catalogue<br />
descriptions to meet your users’ needs,<br />
and organising catalogue records for<br />
easy searching in a library database.<br />
This short <strong>course</strong> uses tools such as<br />
SCIS database and subject headings,<br />
Libraries Australia, Dewey Decimal<br />
Classification Scheme and basic RDA.<br />
Prerequisites: This <strong>course</strong> is designed<br />
to support skill development for people<br />
who are currently working in libraries and<br />
have recently taken on responsibilities<br />
in working with library catalogue records.<br />

Description and Access) Overview<br />
RDA (Resource Description and Access)<br />
is the new cataloguing standard<br />
replacing AACR2 in 2013. The National<br />
Library <strong>of</strong> Australia is implementing<br />
RDA in the second quarter <strong>of</strong> 2013.<br />
This workshop is designed for all library<br />
and information workers, to provide<br />
an overview <strong>of</strong> the new standard, and<br />
will include practical activities to aid<br />
the understanding <strong>of</strong> RDA concepts<br />
and their implementation in libraries.<br />
Prerequisites: You should be working in<br />
a library, or currently studying a library<br />
qualification.<br />

Library Skill Sets - RDA and FRBR<br />
RDA (Resource Description and Access)<br />
is the new cataloguing standard replacing<br />
AACR2 in 2013. The National Library<br />
<strong>of</strong> Australia is implementing RDA in the<br />
second quarter <strong>of</strong> 2013. Underpinning<br />
RDA is the concept <strong>of</strong> FRBR (Functional<br />
Requirements for Bibliographic Records).<br />
This workshop is designed to provide<br />
all library and information workers with<br />
an understanding <strong>of</strong> FRBR as a concept<br />
and how it impacts resource discovery.<br />
FRBR and its relationship to RDA as a<br />
cataloguing standard will be covered.<br />
The session will include some practical<br />
activities to assist understanding <strong>of</strong> the<br />
concepts between RDA and FRBR. At<br />
the end <strong>of</strong> this session you will have a<br />
sound understanding <strong>of</strong> FRBR, and be<br />
aware <strong>of</strong> the impact FRBR is having on<br />
information discovery, and what this<br />
implies for the future <strong>of</strong> cataloguing<br />
standards. Prerequisites: You should<br />
be working in a library, or currently<br />
studying a library qualification, AND<br />
have attended the short <strong>course</strong><br />
