• came from a higher socio-economic grouping.<br />

School careers advisers and other school staff were reported to<br />

be the most helpful people at the meeting by over half <strong>of</strong> all<br />

young people who could recall attending a transition review<br />

meeting (Table 4.8). Parents/carers, Careers Service /<br />

Connexions personnel and SENCOs were all reported to be<br />

the most helpful people at the meeting by at least ten per cent<br />

<strong>of</strong> young people who had undergone formal transition<br />

planning.<br />

School careers advisers were particularly applauded by young<br />

people <strong>with</strong>out statements <strong>of</strong> SEN, young people in<br />

mainstream schools and those <strong>with</strong> behavioural, emotional or<br />

social development needs in relation to how helpful they had<br />

been at the transition review meeting. <strong>Young</strong> people <strong>with</strong><br />

statements <strong>of</strong> SEN and those who attended special schools<br />

were slightly more likely to cite their parents/carers as the<br />

most helpful person at the transition meeting than those<br />

<strong>with</strong>out statements and who attended mainstream schools.<br />

4.2 Coverage <strong>of</strong> transition planning<br />

A broad range <strong>of</strong> issues are addressed as part <strong>of</strong> the transition<br />

planning phase ranging from how to continue in education to<br />
