>> flood risk management in england and wales
Spatial planning benefits from detailed
knowledge, while the changing climate
demands a thorough approach to managing
flood risk. Royal Haskoning is at the forefront
in implementing the Environment Agency’s
flood risk management policy for England
and Wales. In order to identify areas that will
benefit from flood defences, Coastal & Rivers
was assigned to formulate the definitive
criteria and detailed guidance now used
PROJECT MANAGER >> D.A. Worth CEng BEng MICE MCIWEM nationwide to put the policy into practice.
We also trained Environment Agency staff
and now that the main programme is well
under way, we are carrying out tidal and fluvial flood modelling and mapping, notably for 2,500 km of coastline in the South
West as well as for areas in Southern and Eastern England.
>> partners for the moses project
Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Ukraine and
Romania have all been severely affected by
floods over the past ten years. They have
now joined forces to establish a new flood
information system. The European Union
recently approved the MOSES project for
Central and Eastern Europe. The project is a
continuation of the ongoing NOAH project
for North West Europe, in which Dutch
and German authorities are cooperating to
PROJECT MANAGER >>ir. J.J. Flikweert
improve flood incident management. Coastal
& Rivers has helped our Dutch client STOWA
to find partners for both NOAH and MOSES.
In both projects, a web-based information management tool will be developed to function as an automated flood incident
plan. Decision making and damage control will greatly improve when the right information is available at the right place
and at the right time. With the help of our international network, we found suitable partners in Ireland and raised interest
for future participation in other countries, including England and Scotland.
