We are into 2012 with many initiatives underway
that bring together our plan to provide the best
value service for you as a ratepayer, along with our
vision to build a better future for our children and
grandchildren.
Currently we have over 79,000 people living in
Playford and we continue to experience increased
activity and investment in our region, however this
growth affects our environment, our infrastructure,
our community needs and our planning.
So we are putting in place the necessary strategies
and master plans that will not only manage the
increased demands of our community, but also take
advantage of the opportunities that growth presents
to us.
The Playford Plan is also being further developed
to ensure we have an integrated approach to our
overall development as part of the 30 Year State
Government Strategic Plan. This means we have
designs and costings for major initiatives already
in place, so we can be frontrunners in attracting
long-term funding from government and business to
deliver these projects.
Council has now endorsed the Lyell McEwen
Hospital Precinct Masterplan. This significant project
maintains our focus on our health and wellbeing
now and into the future. We are currently working
with the State Government, health providers and
businesses to attract the necessary medical and
health services, facilities and jobs.
Close to this area we are looking to establish a
dedicated Playford Sports Precinct, so we can
offer quality facilities to develop elite players in our
community. This will complement the Angle Vale
Sports Precincts that will be open in June this year.
We have also set up two areas for business
development and local job creation, with Edinburgh
North already headquarters for over 100 businesses
and 1,550 hectares set aside at Greater Edinburgh
Parks, and launched the Invest Northern Adelaide
website.
An Open Space Strategy has been developed to
ensure that our parks, reserves and open spaces
become more usable, friendly and exciting.
In order to deliver these major projects, we continue
to strive for more efficiency and effectiveness in our
daily operations, as we work towards improving our
city presentation, and making our neighbourhoods
safer and more attractive.
Our goal is to reduce operating costs by 9% by
2015/16, as we deliver $75.6 million of ongoing
services and $25.9 million of capital projects this
financial year, so Playford can continue to be a great
place to live, work, play.
