AHH Fishing Challenge Saturday July 14th the Anglers of Huntington Harbour participated in the second annual AHH versus AHH Fishing Challenge and Raft Up organized by Tournament Chair Carmen Morrow. The participating boats included Jim Person’s and Mike Concannon’s “Invader” with fishermen Nick Peoples and Sandi Concannon, Jim Martin’s “Sentimental Sam” with fishermen BG Williams and Mike Moulton and Phil Lupton’s “Absinthe” with fishermen Carmen Morrow, Jim Armor and Tony Zazzu. July TGIF and Summertime Social The evening of July 27th nearly 70 Anglers and guests met at the Harbour Coves waterfront home of Jim and Linda Armor for the group’s July TGIF and Summertime Social. Each of the Anglers brought one of their favorite appetizers or desserts to be enjoyed by all as they socialized and discussed the results of the GREGORY L. To insure that no member or guest went home hungry the Armors grilled and served some good old fashioned hot dogs with all the fi xings. AHH Philanthropies The Anglers of Huntington Harbour is a 501c3 charitable corporation with its annual Kids Fishing Trip for at-risk children in the community the organization’s primary philanthropy for the past 42 years. In addition, during the past year the Anglers have made donations to HOPE Harbour Ocean Preservation Enhancement’s white sea bass grow out pen, Friends of Rollo, Get Inspired for Huntington Beach High Schools white sea bass program, the Ocean Institute in Dana Point for the education program and most recently to the Friends of the Huntington Beach Central Library to help maintain the library’s 100 gallon salt water Aquarium with 16 species of fish that was opened to the public in 1994 to educate the children of Huntington Beach about the various fish in our local waters. August TGIF Friday evening August 31st 47 Anglers of Huntington Harbour and guests kicked off the Labor Day weekend at the waterfront home of Jim and Jo Andrews for the organization’s August TGIF and End of Summer celebration. There was an abundance of tasty appetizers and desserts the Anglers brought to the party that were enjoyed by all as they socialized on the Andrews waterfront patio and talked about the upcoming annual Progressive Dinner by Duffy organized by Kathy Bayless and the October Inter-club Fishing Tournament organized by Carmen Morrow. Upcoming Events The Anglers of Huntington Harbour are celebrating their 48th year in the Harbour and upcoming events include the Anglers Inter Club Fishing Tournament on October 13th, the October TGIF/ Halloween Party at the home of Gary and Paty Whitener on October 26th, the Annual Ladies Luncheon November 1st at the home of Helene Rowlette and the November TGIF/Annual Meeting and Election on November 18th. Assistance League by Sloan Gallipeo Fund raiser update: Save the date for 2013. We are going to have our fund raiser luncheon, silent auction and live auction at the Hyatt Huntington Beach on Saturday, April 6, 2013. Program spotlight: It is back to school time now and we are gearing up to help clothe school children in need through our program Operation School Bell. Starting in October we will have a series of special shopping nights at Target where elementary and middle school children referred by the schools in Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and Westminster will come to shop for new school clothes and also receive a Payless shoe card for a pair of new shoes. We were able to help clothe over 1,300 school children last year. Assisteens Auxiliary Update: If you know of any students who will be 13-18 years old this school year and are interested in volunteering in our Assisteens Auxiliary, please call our office (714- 596-9935) and leave a message for Chris Shield. You can also send an email to our office email account alhb1234@netzero. com for more information. The Assisteens were busy this summer getting trained and helping out in our Thrift Shop. They start the school year off with their annual beach cleanup among other community activities. Each year we give back about $350,000 to our community through funds raised at our thrift shop and our annual fund raiser. Our Thrift Shop and Boutique are located at 8071 Slater Ave., Huntington Beach (near Beach Blvd). We are open 11am-3pm. Please note our new days/hours. (Now closed Sundays and Mondays. Thursday hours are 1-5pm). We are a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and adults in the community. This popular event was held at the lovely waterfront home of Carol Webster where many met for hors d’eouvres, liberal libations and special sociability.
